kinda do this for songs.just fully immerse in the experience as if I'm writing it for the first time, even though at some level I know it's someone else's writing I'm just copying down. Helps if I remember it and try to recreate it from memory, helps even more if I forget some things and fill in the spaces with my own words, my own lyrics.

I fully agree. It's okay to steal to get inspired. And if you use the stolen stuff in the film after the inspiration - that's okay too since it's all about doing something fun and interesting. Just look at Tarantino - he spent his life just plagiarizing stuff
