Pepsi is one of the most popular beverages in the world. It appeared in our country in the 1970s, when Pepsi-Cola bottling plants started operating in Poland. The first franchise companies were Browar Gdańsk (1973), Polmos Kraków and Bosman Browar Szczecin. In September 1974, production was started at the brewery factory in Poznań, on the premises of the former Brewery, which belonged to brothers Juliusz and Alfons Hugger. It was where Stary Browar is based today. Later it was also produced by Polmos Wrocław.
From 1989 onwards Pepsi was also produced in Dojlidy Brewery. Also in 1989, after a Pepsi audit, it was stated that Polmos Wrocław was the best Pepsi producer in Europe, for which the plant received an award. At the beginning of the 90’s, Pepsi production in Poland began. Today, Pepsi production plants in Poland are located in Żnin near Bydgoszcz and in Michrów, 35 km south of Warsaw.
The history of the drink is however much longer. Pepsi-Cola was launched in 1893 by the American pharmacist Caleb Bradham in New Bern, North Carolina. At the beginning, the drink was called Brad’s Drink and was produced at the creator's house. Later the name was changed to Pepsi-Cola. The word "pepsi" comes from pepsine. The drink originally had the addition of this enzyme and was intended to be used as a cure for indigestion.
Today we can find it in almost every store in the world, in cafes and restaurants, including global chains. Pepsi is available in KFC, Pizza Hut, Burger King and many more.
In addition to Pepsi, PepsiCo produces 7UP drinks, Mirinda, Schweppes, Lipton Ice Tea, Mountain Dew, as well as snacks. Lay's crisps (advertised by Leo Messi), Cheetos and Sunbites are their best knwn snacks.
But let’s head back to Pepsi and it’s production in Poland. To see the Pepsi production process, we visit the plant in Michrów.
