Excellent conversation. Theodicy is the study of why god allows bad things to happen. It’s a giant problem that trifurcates the Abramic religions. The Jews and Muslims say ‘God is Great’ when good or bad things happen considering the immensity of His actions while the Christians have this weird approach where God is good, Satan is bad and great is when God lets someone kick a football just right. And then you talk to really religious people from every angle, and you have to flip the table and play Warhammer with demigods to get the clues to hit the gnostic button while honking the occult horn to unravel the mystery of why Amos said who farted near Barabbas or some nonsense. Sometimes you get a wise discourse about charity from RamBam, sometimes you get stories about little girls martyring themselves against graven images turned into gold statues. It’s all an uneasy but human activity to make the unrestrained feel corralled.
