In this video we examine the impact of pornography on romance, intimacy and social development. There has been a sharp decline in relationship satisfaction and partnerships in general. Many young people are opting out all together. This is due to many factors, but a primary cause is the exposure to graphic, hyper-stimulating, taboo material found on the internet.
This clip is from the "Before Skool Podcast" episode 11 with Bret Weinstein. Watch full episode here • Bret Weinstein - Bold ...

I agree its like a drug but its NOT a matter of "just say no". Just look how well that "worked" regarding drugs. Sure, you can always personally do that but, there is no avoiding its consequences entirely for most ppl most of the time. We'll do anything but just admit to our own damn selves that despite ANY & ALL laws, the "illegal" drug trade IS a significant proportion of the global economy & therefore isn't going anywhere, EVER. The same is true here. The ONLY optimal solution in ALL such cases is acceptance that it exists, & maximizing EDU about it & help resources & such. Like Bret, I am surprised that this conversation hasn't already begun, far & wide that is. The old "Us Vs. Them" distraction is still working like a champ.

The other issue is if you do try to talk about it, you’re a prude, sexist, a member of the patriarchy, etc.. People have been pushing for sexual liberation and acceptance and look where it’s getting us… a large spike in children consuming porn. It’s really eroding the concept of healthy relationships and has also facilitated the rise of hookup culture. Few people even seem to know what a healthy relationship looks like anymore.

Most critiques of porn are the Christian "SEX IS OF THE DEVIL" pseudo-moralistic posturing. We need to understand that what's at fault here isn't the sexy part; it's that it's commodified. Blames social alienation, capitalist hyperindividualism, or the continued collapse of the inadequate "traditional" social order, it's a problem we don't have a solution to.

I work in a high school with students who are at risk of dropping out, and I’ve definitely noticed a lot of these cultural shifts that have happened in how people are relating to one another, and even themselves. A couple of weeks ago a student was preparing for finals. She became frustrated and was like “whatever, I’m just going to become a stripper.” I mean no disrespect to people in that profession, but I’m worried that young women feel that is where all of their worth lies. I’m nearly 10 years older than most of the students I work with, and I was definitely taught to be well rounded and apply myself in school, sports, and other activities. But a lot of the teenagers I work with are getting the message that those things don’t matter. With so much emphasis being on social media and one of the top careers young people aspire towards being an influencer, a lot of them are getting the message that what matters most is how they look and what their online presence reflects. I see all of the students as multifaceted individuals who are capable of more than selling products- or themselves- online. More messages like the ones reflected in this video need to be online to reinforce that. So, thank you for this content! And to all of the gen z people who might see this post, I want you to know that you are so much more than your appearance , and you deserve love and genuine human connection.

I heard a story recently about a woman, who had been in an 7 year relationship, and got out with a deep fear of men. Why? Because she admitted she felt "used like a wh0re". I take this to be an extreme case for a general principle in the modern world; use each other people for your own benefit. We need to take a new direction.

I see your point but that was a thing when I was in highschool, 10 years ago. Life is too easy and people lost the point. Shame would fix it, but people over here tend to go overboard with that stuff. Like sex has nothing to do with sex. Who knew? Lots of people! They just don't talk about it, and for good reason. Sex is the kind of thing you can teach yourself. But you need to take a detached view on it. Like get away from it. People really suck. I don't blame them. There's something different about the world, and it has to do with our gut.

Been saying it for years. Needs to be a movement to do away with social media period. We clearly can’t handle it and it is destroying us. We don’t connect anymore or strive for deep relationships. There’s no romance. It’s all on the surface. I was born in the 80’s and was a teenager in the 90’s. I remember when people connected. I remember finding love and the excitement of that connection. Now it’s such a foreign thing. I don’t feel or see it anywhere. One of the main driving factors is social media and yes the easily ready porn everywhere. Everything is hyper sexualized. And I mean everything. There needs to be a movement of disconnection from our phones. Do your part. Spread the word. Limit your time online and for Peet’s sake delete the social media apps. You don’t need any of them. You never did. Let’s get back to being human.

I think porn is only a piece of this problem. There are those, like myself, who see porn as a mechanical ritual. We acknowledge that porn is completely unrealistic, but we consume it anyway, because we're single, so might as well -- as long as it doesn't deteriorate to the point where we cannot function daily. I personally don't consume extreme content and keep my taste as grounded as possible. Something happened to me not very long ago that changed my perspective on this. I met a girl I was actually infatuated with. They come across quite rarely for me. The moment that happened, I lost all motivation to consume pornography. About a week after she told me she was not interested in dating, I returned to my old habits. So I can't empathize with anyone who is so addicted to porn that they find no interest in real sex. My problem, and I imagine there are more like me out there, is that romantic relationships seem like an unintelligent risk. Most of our modern history leading up to now has taught us this lesson. Divorce rates are extremely high, and divorce is extremely punishing for the male, which I happen to be. There is the obvious risk of becoming involved with a mentally unstable person that tries to ruin your life. However, there is an even worse, more insidious risk; a relationship of complete mediocrity and dissatisfaction. The idea that I'd waste 2+ years of time with someone only to find out I'm not really interested in them any more, or perhaps because they stopped putting effort in once they felt comfortable, is quite soul-crushing. That idea has kept me trapped for my entire life. Perhaps my romantic drive just isn't high enough. Perhaps I'm just picky. And no, most of my criteria do not involve appearance -- my friends always told me that I find women attractive that they wouldn't. But this is how my mindset approaches this problem.

@@aminabdullah350 From my experiences growing up in a Roman Catholic practicing household it has been quite the opposite. The shame and guilt that was forced into my head regarding sex,, the shame that I still feel till this day anytime I even become aroused has made me develop a "fuck-it" mentality as to where now when I feel ashamed I act in the opposite direction,, attempting to bury those feelings deep enough that no one, not even myself will see. I have exploited myself on the internet and then regretting it all later after having a flash back to sexual assault from childhood. This is a much more complex issue as a world at large and especially for Gen z. This can't be solved within one year, 10 years, maybe even 100 but it all needs to start now or we will manifest a living hell onto earth.

I'm not disagreeing with anything said specifically in this section of podcast, HOWEVER - I think it is also important to point out that human beings have for the VAST majority of their time on this planet, lived in much smaller pools of people. We weren't competing with so many people at ALL TIMES, which is the situation people find themselves in more and more. It's said that a riot is the language of the unheard, and I think in a similar vein, people in subconsciously feeling defeated and overwhelmed. No matter how hard they try it's not good enough. There's always someone "better" on Tinder or Onlyfans. People will spend their time, money and attention trying to get the best at all times, which leaves many people without mates or matches. Others have mentioned fantasy (movies, etc) being part of the issue as well, and they are right. We constantly raise the bar to this unattainable level, but that's what everyone is conditioned to think is normal. Yes, porn doesn't help, but I think it's the natural end result of people trying their hardest and not getting anywhere, so that's what the can turn to. Many people have staggeringly unrealistic expectations.

This subject seems similar to a story you told some time back about a young warrior distracted by an evil spirit that could show him anything he desired. Eventually, he was weakened to the point where he could not fulfill his destiny and save his people. I think the same thing is happening, and has happened to our young, seduced by the show, and sucked dry for profit, and forgetting how to actually connect.

That people subconsciously know these things to be true but regardless continue to live hedonistic lives. It feels as if they were fated to be slaves never knowing how easily they’re influenced by corrupt societal values.

i'm over in europe, and heard from time to time signs about it in the news.. also a movement that wants to make an alternative offer of 'womanfriendly porn' but i don't like that term that much.. should it be : non-extreme, more realistisch , somewhat romantic with a bit a of crediable storyline porn? :) mmm, that's a bit to long i gues :D , and soft-porn would probably be considered to 'soft' as a term? But there is extra focus on sexual education in high school now, to give some small counter weigth to weird things teens often have seen of hard weird fetish porn on the internet! none of that counter effort in the states? it's all a bit small, mostly test case, but at least some counter movement does exist :).

@@TheLordSheogorathdon't forget though that millenials could not afford to be picky and cocky like gen z can nowadays due to worker shortage. A lot of us millennials entered the labour market after the 2008 financial crisis and even with advanced degrees it was extremely hard to find a half decent job, so whatever we got we had to take and hold onto it whatever unreasonable demands employers forced on us, otherwise we would have starved. Currently, workforce is so scarce that everyone with a pulse gets accepted. I see things happen on a regular at my job for which me and my older colleagues would have been fired for the tenth of that offense on the spot. Employers are desperate now to hold onto bodies, so employees can get away with demanding fair wage, work-life balance and boundaries etc. That would have been (mostly) unthinkable even 5 yrs ago. Millennials just did not have the luxury to demand those things. But this is just my experience and observation.

It's hard to find that genuine, romantic partner -- after years of online dating, and having friends that date online, we finally ditched the apps (we tried many) and have yet to meet anyone in person. Online, I'd be ghosted, or absolutely no guy I dated wanted to commit to anything that's more than casual. Even the profiles I saw and didn't swipe on -- "just want to see where this goes" or "just casual" were the majority. Just from my POV/opinion, commitment is seen as "taboo" "crazy" or "needy" in dating culture. I assume it's it's similar for men swiping on women. I also hope for what was stated earlier in the video -- that the next generation can change how we date.

Chicken and the egg; what came first? The lack of romantic intimacy, or the pornography addiction? I’d argue the pornography addiction hinders the ability to find romantic love, to expect a woman to give that to you while still indulging in pornography to fill that hole is unrealistic. It’s like expecting someone to fill your cup while you’re actively poking holes in the glass. Nobody will ever be able to fill that hole, so long as you keep poking holes. Figure out why you poke holes, patch them up, then maybe someone will actually be able to fill that cup and would want to, because it would be worth filling.

As I got older starting dating. Every single girl I met was so damaged, had daddy issues, didn't need or want a man that porn became my way to make that special connection. When I met my wife everything changed. I realized I didn't need porn to feel loved anymore. I had someone that wanted to love me for all of me. So now I'm done with all the horrible porn and happily married. I do feel finally that connection with someone I've always wanted to feel. Just to be feel and be loved is all I was looking for. Its weird how normalized porn has become in society, rampant sexual innuendos, memes where the punchline is a porn term or hentai clip, OF seen as liberating for women. Even a lot of popular music lyrics are just straight up erotic novels, and its played on the radio with no issues at all. I honestly think sex and eroticism should be taboo once more

I'm almost 2 months clean and in a healthy relationship. I started tracking my porn use on my calendar (just writing "xp" for "no porn" in the bottom corner each day) and it's motivating to write it on there every day for my significant other to see. It becomes routine to write it and the thought of breaking it and having to explain starts to feel like a non-option.

I’ve struggled with this for years and it really got in the way of me getting a real partner. The easiest way to understand why it should be avoided is it will never make you happy. I got back on the horse, recently met a nice girl (by pure dumb luck btw, I’m no Prince Charming) and abstaining from it has been a lot easier. I realized my personal issue causing the addiction was because deep down I was lonely and believed nobody would want me. Now that I’ve found somebody who so far, likes me for me, it’s like that issue’s being resolved piece by piece. This was a great video.

Especially, where it's mentioned that women who show some skin somehow makes them less appealing to men for a relationship. That's his opinion. And then the talk about possible human extinction due to the absence of breeding. Is this a joke? We are totally overpopulated and destroying the planet. Pausing the button and not breeding for a while would not be a bad thing at all. So, it sounds he wants to get married to a woman that covers up her body and then wants to breed with her. That's cool. But he shouldn't put down people who don't want these things.

I agree with the main points of the video but there’s a very important thing they did not touch upon. The same society that gives us easy access to porn, does not allow for young people to explore their sexuality in a healthy and taboo free manner, and more importantly there are no teachings of how to do so SAFELY. I think admitting that we are all sexual beings and that it is okay for us to explore sexuality with each other and ourselves from an early age with proper guidance and openness, such as with any other aspect of our lives, would go a long way.

God help the younger generation exploited by rapacious content creators, businesses and their own self gratification. goodness. so glad i am older and wiser and not adversely affected by this dynamic. better to have nothing than the sorry state of what is on offer and its potential "contamination"

That I want a family and a child and a dude who doesn't watch porn or follow women who post half naked photos on Instagram. A gal friend told me that I can't just come out the gate with it. My response? Yes I can. If the dude can't handle it, then better not to waste my time or theirs. In my opinion, no one has to do those things, but if they want to be with me, they do. I have to disagree with this guy when he says the desire to become worthy of a sexual relationship is what has motivated men to accomplish great things... If anything, it's the complete opposite. If we look at many of the so called "geniuses" and men who accomplished truly great things, it was infact do the transcending, or, rather, the Sublimation of the Sexual impulse that allowed them to accomplish those things. The Sublimation of the sexual energy and redirection of it towards more lofty goals, rather then its dissipation on the temporary satisfaction of carnal desires is what has produced the true polymaths and prodigies, helped awaken their creativity and allowed them to produce such incredible feats and lasting contributions to society. Many were celibate, or never Married, like Nikola Tesla. It doesnt seem that difficult to become worthy of a sexual relationship either tbh... Take her out to dinner, chocolate and flowers, one thing leads to another, etc... She isn't expecting you to chisel out a marble bust of her... The ones who could accomplish those incredible feats of architecture or timeless works of art were the ones who werent worried about "getting the girl" and instead understood the inherent power of harnessing the Sexual Energy (Which is the creative power in the Universe) to be used for more lasting achievements of renown and acclaim.

Ideal ideas of perfection always existed, you do not need porn for that. Pornography is simply the result created as a representation of sexuality in a different way. Pornography is simply put just media, this can be a video, a picture it can be even a fantasy. We cannot deny to have fantasies like this, because then we would deny ourselves, or the things we do not like on us, therefore the existence of porn is simply a manifestation of those fantasies, while as it progressed people started to moneytize it etc, it became a medium to view in mass consumption. So it is our responsibility how we deal with this medium and it is understandable that people who do not have a partner consume this medium as a replacement. While again the reason why they are single must not be porn itself but the expectations you have to a partner or what your partner should look like. Now offcourse this idealof a partner can be affected by porn consumption, but that is still up to the person. If they get now immersed or not is up to their responsibility, because blaming porn for that is just like blaming ourselves for having fantasies. Those fantasies just took form to catch our awareness, to make us see, that this is somewhat part of us and through this we can encounter this partof us. In terms of addiction i have to say, really everything can make addicted, but again addiction comes from the lack of something. To understand the root of why this happens we have to look further to find a existential question. Is there a meaning to life and what fullfills me? So our problem is not porn, porn is just a facette of the problem, our problem is that we have to learn to control lust and balance it to our life. Now you can argue if a couple has sex 3 times a day, is a lack of control over lust or not, to give an example or if it is normal because a natural act, but so our fantasies natural, while they can lead to overconsumption if we do not pay attention. In ancient times even, there was such a classifcation of beautiful or less beautiful, acceptable as sexual partner or not acceptable and back there, there was no pornhub existing or porn studios, yet people developed the same twisted idea about beauty and sex. We should rather question why this is part of us and how to learn to live with it. Besides that, even without porn, things like :bdsm, rape and other taboo sexual themes have been there since always, porn just gave a form to what was already inside our being. It does present somewhat a dangerous spiral into this things, but those things prexisted before it. Sex is dirty and sex is romantic. By the way, not every insta model does photoshop their pics and the decision to do so, comes from the ideal of beauty that humans have. How long is makeup existing now, i could aswell say makeup should be avoided because we distort natural beauty ? Why was it invented ? To fullfill this ideal. I could bring this even further, sculptures of gods have been made in countless cultures, and they in most cases was made according to what humans percieve as perfect. Angels are described as perfectly beautiful, aphrodite is described as the idol of beauty, what those ancient gods are that we attributed with our idea of perfection and beauty is today models in magazines, instagram and A.I. pictures. Which means the way we view beauty and sex did not change, it just took on a different form, but is basically the same wishful thinking of sex or beauty, the same expectations. Makes sense, because how else could it reoccur over and over through generations, or how else would it been possible to create porn if not through fantasies we already have. We are just facing ourselves, till we overcame and learned to live with things. Just as wars have always been, only when we overcame them they will stop appearing, only when we understood the root cause their manifestations tries to show you. We cannot just pretend we are all pure, cause the world is a product of u, but we can learn to live with our darker side without it hurting others. We invented Dall. E, Dall E. did not tell us we should use it to make Ai. Porn, we decided that, it just gives us the possibility , and we decided to visualize it. Every invention starts with an idea and so also does porn. If i build a sexbot to fullfill all your sexual desires, you do not have to use it or you can decide how to use it , how often etc. But the bot was created based on what people sexually desire, it did not create the desire, it just fullfills it.

I'm relatively old (38) compared to the average college freshman and find myself back in school in a mid-life career pivot. It's absolutely mind blowing how socially inept 18-year-olds are compared to my first college experience. I know being fit and attractive is a factor, but I find myself innocently flirting with girls in my classes and the thirst for male attention is also mind blowing. I have a gaggle of giggling girls constantly fawning over me. I don't mind the attention, it's flattering to my ego, but I am left more sad than anything. I have tried coaching up a few guys who have come to me for advice, and my biggest piece is stop watching porn. Broke free of that trap in my early adult life and haven't looked back.

What works for me best is that I have an allowance. I only view it once a week and that suited me perfectly. It is a tool of self discovery and the loosening of taboos/shame around sex so I definitely recommend this approach instead of just forbidding it.^^

This is beautiful, Man. I've watched you since the beginning and this, to me, is a breakthrough video. Btw. Congratulations on the subscribers. You so deserve it. Also, I loved seeing you as you were executing your art. What you do is amazing. A good British term would be "brilliant". Thanks for all you do. I'm looking forward to your next production. Peace and blessings.
