Covering the necromancers and necromancer lore. Going through the history of this mysterious class from the Burning Legion and the nathrezim up to the troll necromancers and the most popular human Scourge necromancers.
I talk about how the first necromancers came to from Dalaran, what their abilities are from raising abominations to flesh titans and other types of undead. Lastly, I go into their current use, specifically with the Forsaken and Sylvanas and how powerful necromancers are in wow.

Necromancy has always been my favorite aspect of magic. Playable class or not, I would at least love to see the Necromancer armor as a transmog. It's beautiful. Though, it would be killer to summon hordes of undead as a class. Sure, the Death Knight can do it with a CD, but what about a class like D3's Necromancer, who has a host of constant, yet perhaps mediocre skeletons? Treat it like Demonology Warlocks, but persistent minions with buff spells? Someday, I hope...

Something I wonder about: how does necromancy fit into the big six powers in the Warcraft universe? Is it strictly death magic, or can fel or void magic fuel necromancy?

If Necromancer did become a class, I think the talents spec would be two DPS and a healing spec. The healing one would be focusing on taking heal from enemies and giving it to party members. The DPS ones would be a pet one where you keep on summing temporally undead, getting a whole undead army, and maybe even rising enemy to temporally fight for you. The finale one would be spreading sickness and disease on foes. There could even get DOT off others and spread it onto enemies. I know we have DK and WL that do that, but I don't mind that there kind of play the same way just as long as add a few twitches to make them unique to them.

Why stop at a Summoning and Healing Specs, when we can also get a Taming Spec: where your Necromancer is able to enslave minions to your will similar to that of a Hunter Pet? Take it a step further, and similar to the DKs' Runeforging; why not include a Necromancer Only profession known as Exhuming where you can create your own Undead Minions by combining the body parts at a Graveyard or Crypt? Necromancers would be able to loot unique chests found at certain graves or crypts; allowing them to impart unique traits and abilities onto their Undead Minions.

It is definitely possible. Monks were planned for WotLK and they added them in Mists of Pandaria.

I rly hope thats the case but i would like to see an empowered Kel'Thuzad as the main bad guy instead of the Lich king. He could be controlled by kel or just need our help with him (I rly dont think the last one is gonna happen)

I think you missed important point to clam necromancer as the most powerful spell caster, that's transformation into a lich, not 'lich' as a title such as in the case of Gunther Arcanus, which could be given because of being powerful and talented undead magician, but because you achieving immortality with a phylactery as your 'horcrux'. Fyi, in real life, necromancer wasn't always considered evil and try to reanimated dead or disturbed the burial site for a wicked reason, but simply a practice to communicate with the dead, such as using an Ouija board or seances.

Like you said, a spellcaster version of the paladin (and the demonhunter) exist, so why can't one exist of the death knight?

@@93.012 I don't know man. Priests are iconic and we already have shadow priests and warlocks. Maybe they will add something similar revolving around spirits with a shadowlands expansion. Like a spirit necromancer. But necromancers should of been added in wrath if they ever considered it. Unholy needs abominations back though.

The way I see it, Necromancers are a cross between a DK and Mage. I seen them use arcane and frost magic in Northrend. Not to mention, Kel’thuzad was the most notable.

It would be hard for them to make lore sense of having players of either faction be necromancers. Maybe while Sylvannas was around, but you’d think neither faction would let their own dead be used and any peace treaties would involve not raising the other faction’s dead. Maybe they can just work with non-aligned bodies? :p

the necromancer could be like a horde dps, like the unholy death knight, but they always have 3-4 undead around them at all times. and maybe the other spec could be a support one where they give temporary health and debuffs to enemies and buffs to allies. like they dont need to be a super focused on directly offensive magic, since we got a ton of those, and it would have been fun to have something that is all about other stuff for a change

In the Warcraft iteration, necromancers are seemingly fragile beings, if cought unguarded by their undead minions or dark shields, they are easily struck down by almost every other caster or melee fighter. In that sense, i see them as pretty weak, but their strength depends entirely on the minions/servants they can summon. So essentially, a necromancer alone is a dead necromancer. That being said, i look at Death Knights as a superior version of Necromancers, as in my eyes, they are more powerful when it comes to raw necromantic power, not just in terms of raising the dead, but also dark magic, on top of being unstoppable killing machines. Put a DK and Necromancer side by side, considering what they can do, it is clear who is superior, or just Picture LK/Arthas and Kelthuzad.

Aside the fact that necromancers created DK's and Kel'thuzad LK/Arthas are far away from your average DK or Necromancer, also that was Ner'zhul power not Arthas and guess who still lives? the lich plus the fact that no they dont depend on the undead to defend thenselves as incendiary bolts ofshadow chill of grave and festering deseases are somethin to consider DK's and Necromancers are similar to Priests and Paladins in a way also DK's magic is runic magic.

@@mondroga2862 Necromancers simply raised the corpses, LK gave the power. DK Arthas/Lich King and Kelthuzad are simply more powerful versions of your regular DKs and necromancers. It's not even arguable that necromancers depend on minions they summon, these are WoW necromancers we are talking about, no Diablo. Minions serve as a meat shield, the only thing keeping em alive, without them, they are weak and fragile. You think some silly little shadow bolts are going to stop an axe to the chest or being impaled by a frost spike up your ass? Won't stop a DK, where as a necromancer will get squashed like a bug. Without minions, necromancers are nothing, fact is, you are just fanboying. Another fact is that a DK could annihilate a necromancer by a single hit, steal it's soul and feed on it. There is a reason they only do the summoning, and not the fighting in the Scourge army, they don't stand a chance on the battlefield.

Amazing video, Doron. Speaking offtopic, i like Necromancy in tabletop RPG games such as Pathfinder and D&D, where necromancy isn't inherently associated with evil. You can be a good necromancer (kind of weak, but you surely can!).

@@Doronsmovies the classic RPG concept is that Necromancy is the manipulation of life and death energies. So you can blow your decaying life breath to rise the dead, but you can also repel the undead, destroy them by disrupting the necromantic energy inside them, buff yourself with some necrotic life, etc :D

Lich king, Gul'dan, and Cho'gall assuming you don't count gods/titans. Edit: misread the question, thought you were asking who were the strongest of each class. Warlock is probably the strongest out of the three.

Well also, because dk and warlock have basically stolen most of what necromancers would do. It’s a shame as I’d love them as a class but I doubt blizzard would be creative enough to come up with specs that wouldn’t overlap with lock and dk

Devs could let us play as a necromancers by letting DK get a quest that turns them or unlocks NM with same skills as DK´s but shift them from melee to range and cloths. Like unlock NM after a long faction grind and u must unlock them with a dk that way it feels ^^ very very REWARDING to get them :D :D, plus you must play as a dk from lvl 55 and no bought power leveling and the faction you dk belongs to (horde/alliance) will get the NM.
