Good stuff. Interlocking systems. Tricky for some greener's especially when Tower 26 goes silent, and you realize you're being tested by some functionaries hiding in the bushes. lol.

I think you explained why a lot of times i see locomotives sitting idle at the Rockville bridge. Another thing i notice are units sitting idle at Enola. Coal manifests etc. Also i noticed a manifest that had John Deere tractors sitting there for about a week at Enola. Always wondered about the odd names. Well you explained that. Nice video leaned some things from your video i never knew.

At the four minute going up to the five minute mark a freight is going by making very unusual sounds. It sounds like the banging of pots and pans and possibly some hissing. What makes these sounds ?

Why is there a propane tank between the searchlight signals?
@clineshaunt

More than likely it supplies gas to a switch heater that keeps the switch from freezing in the winter time.

I noticed that at 3:42, CN boxcar 413259 , Canadian is spelled Canadien. It's hard to imagine that could be a paint shop typo... Can any one inform me if this is an alternate line, or perhaps a "French Canadian" spelling? In any case, it's interesting to see for sure!
@georgecarlson1460
@georgecarlson1460 Жыл бұрын
It's the French spelling. Most CN (and CP) stock a mix -- at one time it was English on one side and French on the other but I don't know if that is still true.

I wonder if the engineer worries if the switch point is in the right position

If there are signals the switch is lined by the rtc. If something is wrong with the switch the signal won’t come in. The signal indication will indicate if they are diverging. If there are no signals approach prepared to stop.

You always check. Down here in South Africa, there was some solder messed in one of the switch motors. This caused an indication on the signallers' panel that the turnout was set for the straight (the signal also indicated a straight route) but in actuality was set for the diverging route. Unfortunately the one long distance passenger train ploughed into another.
