WOW,What a find...You've had it for over 40 years? I've owned dozens of '60's and '70's "muscle cars" including five '67-8 RS/SS big block Camaros and a'67 SS427 convertible(Impala) but nothing like this...How can you just let it sit out side and rot??? It's so cool that you still have it and have kept it in "survivor" condition! Clean it up and get it under cover!

Hey nice to have those documents they help cashing in more. It all depends on what you want to do for it or with it!. Have you enjoyed it much enough to let it go. Is it that much of a sentimental value to keep it?. Not trying to be disrespectful so hopefully you won't take this the wrong way, but how do you KNOW that the car is an actual L89 car? Having an L89 engine in the car doesn't make it an original L89 car, and I'm assuming that if you actually had original paperwork, like the Protect-o-Plate or a window sticker or something like that, then you would've mentioned it. That NCRS shipping report...again, all due respect...means nothing. Nothing beyond GM owned the car for some reason prior to it being sold to a dealer and then onto a customer. Taken with some other form of documentation, the fact that it was owned by GM could help build a picture of the early history of this car. But on its own, the fact that GM owned the car doesn't mean a whole lot. It doesn't do anything to verify that it is an original L89 car. I'm a car guy in general but am more of a "Chevelle guy" (I have five of them), so the 70 Chevelle sitting next to the Camaro really caught my eye and I'd love to hear more about that. Anyway, I mentioned that because I'm not as familiar with the in-depth details of the Camaros as I am with the Chevelles from that era, so all of the codes and trim tag details of Camaros are not as familiar to me. But one thing I am pretty certain of is that there are only two ways to 100% verify that your Camaro is an original L89 convertible. The first would be the original paperwork that I mentioned. The only other way is having the VIN stamped on that engine block. Since you seemingly don't have any original paperwork, that engine stamping will determine whether you have a very valuable project car or a not-so-valuable project car with a very valuable engine in it. You mentioned that the Turbo 400 had the correct code for an L89 engine. Well that transmission will also have the VIN of the car it originally came in stamped on it just like the engine block will. On a Chevelle of that era, the engine block VIN will either be stamped on the pad that is right in front of the passenger side cylinder head, or down by the oil filter depending on which plant the car was built at. I believe the same is true for Camaros. That is going to determine what that car is worth. Again, being more of a Chevelle guy and not as much of a Camaro guy (as far as my depth of knowledge goes...I still love Camaros, and my first car at 18 was a 1989 Trans Am GTA), I don't know what a real L89 1969 Camaro convertible is worth, especially in that condition, but I have no doubt that it's a lot. If you want to speak to the #1 authority on Camaros of this vintage, call up Jerry MacNeish at Camaro Hi-Performance. If he doesn't know about this car already, I have no doubt he will be excited to talk to you. His contact info is on their webpage. He will help you determine if you have a real L89 Camaro convertible.

Hi brother good to hear your thoughts, I’m glad you mentioned the vin , the block and transmission have the vin stamped on them I didn’t get into much detail my apologies there. I thought it had a very interesting history Most cars were untraceable the minute they were dropped off the motor freight truck. Jerry is the official Camaro guy for sure I never had the chance to get my Camaro certified actually I have known of the car since it came to my small town along knowing all the owners so it wasn’t that important I guess. Tell me what you think 👍

@@dennisdempseyradiooutofcontrol You used to be able to simply go to the DMV and ask them for previous owner information on a car that you had the title to. Unfortunately, you can't do that anymore thanks to identity theft, privacy laws, etc. Being able to track down the original owner of the car might enable you to figure out why GM "owned" the car before it was sold into private hands. If they owned it because it was some kind of show car, there might be pictures of the car on public display when it was new. Something like that. Maybe GM would have some kind of records of the car if it was used in a display like that. Not sure. Was the car originally painted white from the factory? White with a black interior and black top doesn't really seem like a color combo they'd want on a "show car", but I could be wrong. It also could've been a car that was ordered new by a higher-ranking GM employee. A lot of cars that were ordered by higher-ranking GM employees during that era had a bunch of options on them, and this car would certainly be a candidate for that. The fact that it is an L89 car and also a convertible is obviously very unusual. The L89 could be ordered by anybody, but it would stand to reason that most of the people who checked that box probably intended to race the car, and a convertible (and an automatic) would obviously not be the first choice of someone who intended to race the car. Especially on a unibody car like a Camaro. That, to me, also lends credence to the possibility that it was ordered new by a higher-ranking GM employee. The L89 engine was the highest performance engine that could be ordered in the 1969 Camaro. The ZL1 and 427 cars were "COPOs", and your Average Joe had no idea what those were or even that it was possible to place a special order like that. Most dealerships didn't even realize that they could do something like that, which is why there were so few ZL1 and COPO cars built (aside from their astronomical cost). So the L89 was the top dog engine on the RPO option sheet, and I believe it was an extremely expensive option (which is why so few of them were built as well). The fact that this car has the L89 engine PLUS an automatic transmission PLUS the convertible top, and the added options like AM/FM 8-track (which was also fairly expensive), deluxe interior, bumper guards, rear defroster, remote mirror, center console...and I believe the cowl hood was an added cost option as well...all suggest that the car may have been special ordered by a GM employee. That was a very, very expensive Camaro when it was new. It was probably even more expensive than a 427 Corvette was...at least one with very few options. If you are serious about selling the car and whenever you get around to doing so, you should absolutely call Jerry to have the car verified. IDK what it costs to do something like that, but not only will his verification add significant value to the car, but he also has all of the connections to the wealthy people who would be able to afford not just the cost to buy the car, but the $100,000+ it would probably take to do a full, correct restoration on it. I'd love to hear some details on the Chevelle if you wouldn't mind. Is it an original 19 B car? Tuxedo Black was the rarest RPO color ordered on 1970 Chevelles. I see also from the video that it has the parchment bench seat interior, and it looks like a column shift automatic.
