Great video. I just had my 9th VATSIM flight. I'm still a bit nervous, and I still fumble my words, but I'll never go back to flying without VATSIM. People need to remember that if you're flying into an event, just disconnect if you are unsure. ATC wont have time to 'hold your hand' while trying to control the airspace.

I would say it’s more tailored to IFR but you can definitely still fly VFR on VATSIM I used to do it when preparing for XC flights irl

No it wasn't bad thankfully, I just emailed them stating what happened and that it wont happen again and they gave me my account back the next day!

@@addyaviates Hello again. Thanks for vids. Because of your training level irl, I highly recommend Pilotedge ratings, CAT for vfr, and I ratings for instrument. You will proceed much faster. Time is money. $20 a month for about 6 months, will be cheapest learning, most significant, experience, in all your aviation career. Learning to deal with grumpy controllers, remaining humble, not taking things personal, remaining poised under pressure, are mental tools and are all part of RW training. Good luck. Not affiliated.

"Banned" is not the best choice of words to use. Instead when a violation of the VATSIM Code of Conduct occurs, a VATSIM Supervisor may "Suspend" the violating users account for a short and limited time period. Meanwhile they will email the user with information about what the violation was and how the situation should have been handled. VATSIM 1000% understands mistakes happen, but also is understanding that you the user needs to take some responsibility knowing the very few rules that are in place and be responsible of your own actions. If you are not capable of that, a simple day or two suspension usually will quickly correct that behavior. Trust me though, VATSIMs interest is to facilitate and grow peoples interest in flight sim and aviation, and not to draw in users to gain some twisted enjoyment with a ban hammer button.

I use both vatsim and pilotedge. Pilotedge is paid but worth it if you plan on being a real pilot. AI ATC is basically rather silly. Good luck

Yep, Pilotedge is more detailed when it comes to realistic VFR procedures and it also has awesome VFR and IFR training programs.

Yeah. I don't plan to be a real pilot but I enjoyed learning on PilotEdge working through and 11-12 of the demo flights. PE is only for certain regions of the US but you can guarantee ATC is staffed as you pay for that. It was stressful but really enjoyable, interesting and incredibly immersive. I once or twice got scolded for not responding due to computer problems as my machine is underpowered and the PE client on Mac had some problems. Now I'm out of practice, but I might try VATSIM after a bit of retraining. The X-Plane 12 ATC is a lot better than 11, but there is nothing about airspace which is very disappointing

Yes, but if you can navigate yourself around southern California you can do anything, lol. I'm sure we would do it better than a random person with a PPL.@@oystercatcher943

Ill give a short answer from another pilot perspective, its fun but not realistic in the slightest. Some of the controllers are very talented, but its scope is too broad to provide you with a really authentic experience. When they do the events its much better. Pilot edge is the way to go, if you have the cash to spend and are very serious about realism.

In terms of the verbiage said and when it is said, what is not true to life? The only way I find it to be not realistic is when controllers are offline so center has to do grounds job for example.

@@addyaviates nothing much to comment on the verbiage, but they don’t enforce verbiage or voice only coms. I’d disagree with the when they communicate certain things, especially due to lack of handoffs because of lack of coverage. I can say I’ve tried flying out of my local airport on Vatsim, and they don’t seem to understand the local airspace at all, and some cool things like local IFR in some locations in the country is not a thing. But you bring up the main thing, the top down model is very unrealistic, removes some pilot resource management. Com frequencies are incorrect and I don’t think it’s authentic or realistic. I do think it’s fun and casual and I still enjoy it and those who take it seriously.

@@dogzero1 I'm not triggered at all. I was merely asking. Let's be clear, it's not simply a game. Unlike casual games, Flight Sim requires effort. You have to learn each aircraft, master virtual flying, understand ATC communications, and read charts for Vatsim. So, it's more than just a game. And also, let's not forget the main reason for starting this argument with you.. You cannot label everyone as pretend pilots like you do, because some people that I know and like in this video are actually pursuing it in real life and using Flight Sim as a training tool. You answered my question and I get your point but I think you could also learn something dude

@@flo4401 Lets get some facts down here. It is a game, a computer game and every one who plays it is a pretending at that time to a pilot. You are trying to make people think that you don't play little computer games. Well you do and you are in a fantasy world. ITS A GAME MR PRETEND PILOT. REMEMBER TO TELL YOUR PASSENGERS TO DISEMBARK ON THE LEFT SIDE.
