The life span of one of those tires can be as short as about three HOURS when used in hard rock mining. These companies used to keep a manufacture's repair man on site to repair the tire. He cuts the damaged area to a size, puts in a patch and vulcanizes that part of the tire. Have to keep the trucks up and running. What really amazes me is the weight they carry an the fact they can go up to 40+ mph. How do they stop in some reasonable distance?

60% for a re-threaded tire is still a lot of money. Plus the work to unmount the tire and the time the big expensive truck has to out of service for the tire change. It'd better be at least 70% as durable as a new one.
@michaelmixon24796 жыл бұрын
Looking at the rubber on our highways from big rig retreads,I am a little skeptical of how good retreads actually are.
@markheintz18784 жыл бұрын
The rubber you see on the road is from the casings themselves failing. Defects inside a casing can only be found using a sherography machine. It's like an x ray machine . Not every truck tire recapper has this machine. I worked as a retread technician for 2companies, one had the machine and one did not. Usually if a cap is going to fail (come off) it does it in the 1st 1000 miles. If the casing is bad it will usually blow out a side wall when it is pressure tested at the final inspection. Goodyear recaps are aired up to 110 psi at final. Bad tires usually pop way before max pressure is reached. I had them pop at as low as 25psi. There are other reasons tires blow on the road, obstacles, heat buildup and very often from being run under inflated which creates more heat.

@luisroig1046 жыл бұрын
I seen a few safety issues. Riding on the side of the fork lift. No hard hat when pealing the tire. Chunks can hit some one in the head. Heck if they make people wear them outside where nothing can fall out of the sky why not. Also standin under forks while tire was hanging for inspection. They could have stood on the other side of tire. I used to be a saftey inspector. Not now because the law states one thing and companys keep doing what they want so Saftey is a joke to a point..
