I mispoke in the video calling it starter but meant ALTERNATOR I'd already filmed it before catching the mistake.

I appreciate you taking the time to show how to replace it. It's probably easier to do everything from the bottom.. I've done it, takes 20 mins less

About that connector at 5:30 mark. One suggestion to others, if you can't quite get to it. Do what I did, 2 x bungee cords at the top, remove all the bolts. That will hold it up after you've let it hang freely. This will then let you adjust the angle to get to the 'pressing' point. Then you come from the top. Take a small needle nose plier. There will be some plastic edges of that socket you can see. Grab it with the tip. (DO NOT GRAB THE WIRE) Then start your pressing with a screw driver etc on that part he describes and pull with the plier at the same time. I'd recommend the needle nose, because it can be tight to get your hands down there or even up there if you want to get to it. This will be a 2 x hands job. Totally easy I suspect if you had a buddy to pull as you push. Best of luck. Took me an hour to figure that part out. And that was the last 10% of the DIY. gah!!

Great tutorial and thanks a million. Just completed an alternator replacement on my 2004 Mazda 3 (2.0) with a great deal of help from your video. Just something to note: After the replacement and reconnecting my battery, I was initially unable to start my vehicle. All the accessory lights came one with the key in the ignition, but the engine would not turn over when I turned the key. I believe the anti-theft immobilizer system was activated. I resolved the issue by locking my doors, disconnecting the battery, reconnecting the battery, unlocking the vehicle with my key, and then starting the vehicle. Thanks for the tip mazda3forums.com. I have disconnected and reconnected my battery numerous times before without ever running into this issue. But for some reason, it happened when replacing the alternator. Thanks again!

HELP?! 2008 Mazda3 i-Touring 5spd. Sat parked 6 months. Jumped, drove but won't start back up. O Reilly's says battery is good and tested alternator at 13.8. The next day the negative was lose and battery light on and battery was smoking, told it was over charging, likely voltage regulator. Tightened battery cable and left idling, was fine, drove around town (few stops, left running) and could smell sulfur but not see any smoke from battery upon returning home. Your video gave a total new the confidence to do this myself...just don't want to go spending money where it don't need to be. And it seems it's cheaper and easier to replace whole alternator than trying to rebuild to replace the regulator.

It might be worth trying another battery first. Make sure the terminals are clean , tight etc. 13.8 would not be overcharging but it still may be possible there is an intermittent issue with the alternator. May also be an issue with a bad wire or ground. Hope you can get this solved , thanks for the feedback.

Hey so long story short my belt snapped off half way on my way to work, and I’m guessing my battery is what got me there because it was ten miles with out it, so when I got a new belt slapped on there the engine runs but it’s weak and vibrates kinda aggressively and I can’t tell if it’s the battery or alternator

What if the volts go up, to like 18? What could it be?
@s33therfan
@s33therfan 6 жыл бұрын
That's definitely too much over 15 is supposed to start boiling the battery acid out, should stay between 13 to 14 or so . The alternator would have to be changed . There is another possibility if battery was replaced with the incorrect size it causes the computer to send wrong signals. But other than that bad alternator . You can also verify it by removing it and taking it to a parts store to make sure , I know places like autozone can check them and I believe most others. Hope this helps please like and subscribe if you found the video helpful . Thanks for watching

That plastic cap that covers the power cable, if that is missing will water cause a popping sound off of that connection
@s33therfan
@s33therfan 5 жыл бұрын
No it wouldn't , possibly a loose connection might . However as a precaution I would get a universal replacement boot insulator. I know O'Reilly had those at one time so I'd check there. It's just a rubber boot that slips over the wire. The man thing is to keep it insulated from something coming into contact . Thank you for watching
