Young Americans aren’t visiting museums as much anymore, so this company is reimagining museum tours to change how we look at art.

Visiting museums isn’t the first outing of choice for most millennials. In fact, there was a 17% decrease in museum attendance among young Americans between 1982 to 2012.
Declining museum visitors might not seem like that big of a deal at first, but these age-old institutions serve an important purpose: they preserve our history in a tangible way and offer a fun way to learn about it.
To make the experience more enticing for the millennial generation, one company is reimagining museum tours as we know them, by delivering storylines about art, culture, and history in a way that’s interactive - and highly entertaining.
Museum Hack leads renegade tours for those who don’t consider themselves fans of museums. Rather than simply relaying bare facts, the guides take an immersive approach that includes sharing art gossip and using storytelling to make the standard tour more akin to an entertainment experience.

It's so great that his company is drawing people to the museums who might not otherwise want to visit. That's a win-win for everyone involved.

Watching an idea you've had for so long finally come to life. Watching lives enhanced by and people actually taking interest in your idea. Best feeling ever :)

I've been wanting to take my wife & son to Mt. Vernon for a cple years now. Post the vid on youtube.. Guess that's not really the same thing but ive had a bunch of ideas, that I dk what/how to take my idea's to the next level. I even developed a mask for kids during this pandemic but didn't have the money to patent it. I've seen a bunch of my ideas become products/services over the years too.

@@J1Duke Good luck! Taking your ideas from ideas to products is one of the toughest steps. Here's a brief overview that may be helpful: www.businessnewsdaily.com/8773-turn-your-idea-into-a-product.html Hope you get caught back up soon and have the chance to push some of your ideas forward! We would love to hear about them.

What he did is akin to that one quote that goes something like - people don't remember what you did or said, they remember how you made them feel. His tours made people feel good.

In contrast, licensed tour guides in Greece use their monopoly power to keep independent guides out. I remember seeing two tourists at the National Archaeological Museum in Athens being told by one of these guides to stop reading their museum-purchased tour book aloud to each other because they had not paid for an official tour.

I go to a museum, and I appreciate that there are few people there. For example, a few days ago I went to Dia:Beacon and was looking at an almost all white painting by Mary Corse, I was alone in front of this beautifully moving art work, then all of a sudden about 6 people were behind me talking loudly. I left.

Awesome idea! In a world where information is flows via video and less and less via text, museums aren't adapting good enough to this trend. Imo museums should integrate social media more in their tours.

That would be cool! It is interesting that audio tours are, well, still just audio on large dedicated devices when people have interactive multimedia ones in their phones. Enabling museums to provide multimedia and social media-connected tour experiences people can access through their phones could be another business idea :).

@@freethink you could even combine that concept with marketing purposes. When the visitors are already online on their social media, they could also share that newly taken photo of their spouse or funny painting they saw and now know everything about.

Cities are definitely powerful incubators for these kinds of ideas, by providing access to physical resources, customers and human talent. For example, NYC's world-class museums, pool of entertainers, and flow of tourists and conferences make it a prime target. That said, they have expanded into other cities, and other ones may have similar opportunities on a smaller scale. When starting a business it's great to think about the resources your area provides to identify potential opportunities!
