I have reached the secret part of developing my indie that they don't tell you when starting out... and I can show you what I mean perfectly with ROCKETS! I gave mysef another 2 weeks to develop this overhaul and improve my GMTK Game Jam 2023 Game! The theme of this Jam was 'Roles Reversed', so I made roles reversed cut the rope! Here's what I learned.

Love the game so far. Here are some creative thoughts. 1. Different paper airplane types for different flight patterns. 2. Thrushers misfiring non-uniformly visually and causing physics problems if you are carrying too much. 3. Maybe turn off each thrusher except the central one unless pulling more then activate the other two. 4. Paper airplane envelopes/file folder or two stationery thumbtacks and a rubber band for the launchers. They could fade out when launched as non-interactives. 5. Cleaning duster spray cans or fans as obstacles or unexpected flight modifiers for the paper airplanes. 6. Ruler held up by thumbtack could add some extra pendulum mechanics. 7. This feels out of place but maybe an automatic stapler as obstacle type.

I cannot thank you enough for spending the time to write all of these down, they (and you) are awesome! I especially love number 5, wind was on my list for the next update already with blowing the parachutes - blowing the rockets is a really cool twist on that I will absolutely be spending some time trying out everything here, ill keep you updated!

I'm also making a puzzle-based indie video game and love your devlogs. I especially love all of your lateral thinking. You are incredibly creative and motivated - I am so impressed!

Great video! I really love the game idea + the new rocket. I have a suggestion and it is to make the ball don't collide with the rope, that will make it look better.

late to the party but what about other types of ropes that follow different physics? perhaps a more elastic one that lets you bounce a lot more a tighter rope for more consistent and sharp movements or maybe a spring rope that launches you when disconnecting? taken straight out of smb (meat boy), an obstacle that really tries to push you away from it when nearby a hand with a low frame but quick "stopmotion" animation that creates more rockets? honestly the ideas are endless of course this is thinking way ahead so ideally you shouldnt put much thought into it im looking forward to how a demo of sorts would look like, ideally just a few fun levels that scale in difficulty and introduce mechanics, at least for me good luck moving onward with the project!

And import some from the original cut the rope, like those spider ropes, maybe as a lighter which burns the rope so you have to release fast?

Very nicwe work on this! The rocket seem like an interesting technical challenge and a fun one at that! Also think the box parachute is a great idea! :D

Question is do we want the next one a bit slower or even faster? 🤔

@@BLANKdevI feel like it’s a little too fast, especially your talking speed. I would just try to relax it a little and make it so there isn’t constantly flying colors all over the screen. KZfaq isn’t TikTok. (But anyways I love these vids so keep doing what you’re doing no matter how you do it)

I really appreciate that feedback thank you. You are right it's a lot in places - probably too much. I don't actually have tiktok so I'm not going for that haha, I just like making it colorful and fun - and I am just really excited about what im saying. I'm always wanting to learn and improve and try new things with these videos, so next time I'll pull back a bit and see how it goes! Thank you for taking the time to tell me how you feel about it ❤️

Can you make the middle mouse make the rope shrink or grow? That would be cool

You could add an editor tool for players who wants to make their levels on this game.

The game isn't out yet but subscribing to the channel or following me on itch (link in the description) is the best way to get notified of when it is released :) I think a sandbox would be great too, it may actually turn out to be the main way to play the game... but that's for the next video

Very cool mechanics, although I'm not sure where this project is going. What do you want to do with it? Loads of levels with variety of mechanics? Short experience for people to try it?
@BLANKdev

Really great questions, I don't know the answers myself. I'm still definitely just experimenting. One reason to open it up and not have levels is I wouldn't know how to really make any haha!

@@BLANKdev Maybe grab together the most fun bits, put together a demo and try and work out where to go from ther.

I think that sounds great! I'm looking into non-level based ideas because the most fun stuff right now seems to just be swinging around without a real goal - it's going to be tough to figure out how to get the most out of this for sure
