I've been following Ryan since he was DP. I came across him reading the Musicbed blog probably 10 years ago now? and I was caught off guard by how generous he was in sharing his experiences. I found it so helpful following his career as he transitioned into a director because he had so much experience in the industry but was going through the beginner process of becoming a director and I think he had a greater ability to translate to true beginners like myself the mirage of the business and becoming a director. What a guy.

As someone that had 3 days to film a documentary about the history of a Texas wine organization interviewing past presidents of the organization, I feel the pain of what Ryan went through. Luckily I knew about half of the 14 people I shot so there was some familiarity and trust. I had done long form interviews with them in the past. The lead up was about 2 months working with the organization as to who was going to be available and then approaching other past presidents to be in it. All of this during their annual conference. I feel that the approximately 100 interviews I've done around the world helped with this.. The logistics of doing that to interview winemakers or other winery personnel with almost no on-site prep, the need to be flexible is huge. Add to that, I have no idea how personable the person is going to be for the interview. I've been lucky that most of them did well on camera. Much of this is due to spending about an hour or so with them touring their winery and maybe a vineyard to get to know them and then trying to replicate those conversations for the sit down interview. By the time we get on camera they are more relaxed and don't notice the cameras. It's a 2-3 hour process each time.

I know you have mentioned the quit word for yourtube which is fast approaching, but even if you do for the normal youtube type stuff is there anyway you can keep the how it was filmed interviews going?????? We all need this series in our life, thank you for them !!
