This vlog chronicles my experience on March 9th, 2024, attending Dollywood's public opening day for the 2024 season! It was a depressingly rainy day, but I tried to have fun anyways!
I checked out new for 2024 experiences such as the new I Will Always Love You festival, construction on the Dolly Parton Experience and other projects around the park, and most importantly, was one of the first to check out Lightning Rod with a chain lift!
As always, thank you for watching Coasting The Planet! Please consider subscribing if you want to see more roller coaster/amusement park and travel related content in the near future, including vlogs, reviews, news, and more!

This was a really great vlog for someone with only 500 subscribers! Loved seeing updates on Dollywood and would like to visit some day. Keep up the great work!

Thunderhead is my favorite coaster at Dollywood! And I also love the quirky uniqueness of Blazing Fury! BBM is awesome and a night ride is still in store for me! I was fortunate to get a sneak preview of the Dolly Parton Experience and it is such a beautiful tribute to a beautiful woman...

Why was it changed to a chain lift?

A large number of technical issues with the launch. Obviously we’ll never know exactly what was going on behind the scenes, but. They had already spent a lot of time, effort, and money trying to make it work in past years to only marginal success. Basically at this point they could either spend a lot of money on a fix for one issue that may not solve all the other issues, or just spend a lot switching to a different system (a chain lift) that they knew for certain would work. I know most recently the launch stators often overheated because they were underbuilt for handling the load of those heavy trains uphill, which is part of the reason it always ran with one train (so the stators would have more time to cool off between cycles). Also as long as it’s been open one of the most well known issues was misalignments, as the wooden structure would often shift (as wood structures are made to do), causing the magnets on the launch system to misalign and trigger an e-stop
