How Seafood is Caught: Dredging

Dredges are large, metal-framed baskets that are dragged across the seafloor to collect shellfish like oysters, clams and scallops. In order to lift the catch into the basket, metal teeth dig into the seafloor, which can significantly impact seafloor habitat and bottom-dwelling species. Dredging also results in high levels of bycatch. By restricting dredging areas, bycatch and damage to seafloor life can be reduced.

shootNloot 350ft dragger will pull up 100 tons without breaking a sweat. The codend is as big as a tour bus. The primary and intermediate can swallow a 2 story 2500sq ft house. Get out of the house son, live a little.

a sandy bottom does NOT mean only sand lol. its often full of important structure ie. old wrecks, coral , rocks etc. that provide a safe haven and hunting grounds for predators. without these, nothing will survive. dredging destroys the bottom.
