Sharks on a world wide scale suffer under their reputation as brutal killers. They are close to extinction due to human prosecution. Ocean Ramsey explains why they are a valuable and fundamental part of the oceans´ eco-systems and encourages everyone of us to help saving them... for our own good.
Ocean Ramsey´s passion sounds rather scary to many of us. She dives with white sharks and is passionate about showing the beauty of them. White sharks are nowaday close to extinction, as they are misunderstood beings suffering under their wrong interpretated nature. Even though sharks are very intelligent and highly helpful in keeping the oceans in a healthy balance by eating ill organisms, they are seen as a danger. It is her goal to generate a better understanding between humans and sharks in order to save them.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

Uh huh... but no matter how much you love sharks, sharks don't love you and will ALWAYS look at you as a potential food source and nothing more. The love is a one way street and don't let your emotion cloud that. Love them from dry land. I wont be one bit surprised when this woman is killed by a Great White if she swims with them often enough. I don't know how often she's doing it but if it's often, the odds will turn and she WILL be killed.

crack shot She swims with sharks almost every day, and with white sharks every season. This is a woman who has studied shark behavior for years at university and has been diving with them for years. I think she is smart enough to calculate a shark’s behavior and if it is aggressive, she will get out of the water 😒 so dont worry

here in the Balearic Islands there are sharks of different species and the great white of South Africa... apart from Orcas. The Balearic Sea is rich thanks to the Posidonia and the richness of the species that live and are protected. Years ago there were great white sharks of 6 meters. There have been no attacks in the area and we respect their habitat

It’s crazy I was thinking if I want to come face to face with an Apex land predatory I will want to be with Kevin Richardson. And if I want to jump into the ocean to face my number one fear that is the shark I would go with Ocean Ramsey. This is before she got to the Lion Whisperer part. I’ve never heard of her until the NBC video showing she swimming with the 20’ white shark. I love her work. She is a wonderful voice for the sharks. And no, I will never take up another offer from my friend for a bowl of shark fin soup ever again. In fact I will tell him what I just saw today from this video. Hopefully he will get on board and spread the message to his fellow Chinese friends. I wish you good luck and much success on your mission.

I love sharks. I may have seen them in Sea World. There were kind of cool. One time, I saw a man capture a small shark on Daytona Beach, it was cool and I record. He just used a dead fish to lure the shark. But since I saw the presentation, I felt bad for the small shark. I don't like how the sharks got their fins cut. It is stupid. And I like Ocean Ramsey, she's beautiful and made sense about sharks. They should be save. I think we have to understand them like Ocean did. They are species living in the same Earth like us. Let's not lose hope for the sharks.

Yeah but the think is that because of said fear that’s also part of the reason why we are making sharks go extinct. That’s exactly what she was talking about. But, what people don’t realize is that we have nothing to fear from sharks in the ocean because the chance of getting attacked by a shark is next to nothing it’s 1 in over 3,000,000 and what people don’t realize is that we need sharks.

Some people have a certain aspect of themselves that animals understand. When I lived in Idaho I had a huge grizzly bear that came in my yard one day. He wasn’t mean or agressive, just curious. I immediately ran inside a d grabbed my rifle. He rolled over on his back and started rubbing it on the grass. He never got close enough for me to pet him. He was just hanging out. I never fed him so he had no reason to come. I think he just liked my company.

I was actually never scared of sharks, one of the reason is because i surf, and i love scuba diving, and I love them, they are beautiful. There was one time when I was young, many times actually, I wondered why do people kill sharks just for their fin? It does nothing for you, and people can not suspend another’s life just for one thing that satisfies the need of a person.

Who are the 8 people that "disliked" this video? Maybe they think shark fin soup is more important than the earth's eco system and saving sharks from extinction I thought it was an incredible presentation and message. I am a huge fan of Kevin Richardson and his mission to save lions and now I am a huge fan of you and your mission. I loved that you mentioned him in your presentation. Keep up the great work. Majority of Asian countries have been confronted on this issue. They will say they understand the need for change but when it comes down to action...... You no the answer. There's a great documentary here on KZfaq but ul have to do a quick search for it but ul find it. It's informative but so shocking and sad to see these beautiful creatures dragged on board alive, fins hacked off and thrown back in alive. Where they just drop down to the sea bed and drown. I don't cry much but this made me cry. Like that Chinese proverb ocean is talking about we are doomed to fail if no one is willing to change

Great job Ocean and glad you are standing up for the cause! Petting a lion and lion whisperer though?!??! I think a key message for others to hear is that the utmost respect one can give Mother Nature and her creatures is to leave well enough alone meaning protect but not interfere or touch unless strictly for science and preserving their future. Just hope everyone is clear on this. Aloha
