Then you can conquer Eurasia/Africa quickly with two chariots by saving before each attack. Next, research triremes and sail to America with your chariots and conquer that. Lastly, Australia, but you don't conquer the last civ. You force it to become a settler and trap it in the mountains while you build across the map. Your score will be unbeatable.

I wanted to say thank you for Civilization. Sid Meier helped me through a very tough time in my life. In 2006 I survived an inoperable ruptured brain aneurysm, follow by two heart attacks and (to date) seven strokes. The left side of my body was gone, unable to talk, read, walk, but my beautiful wife started my at home rehabilitation very a vengeance. One of the things she did was have me sit with Civilization. I had been playing it since it first came out, and she felt it would help sparking my brain back into action. It worked, slowly at first but it worked. I still suffer from stroke related seizures and migraines, but I went from a death bed to a wheelchair to a walker, a cane, but finally walking on my own with a slight limp. My recovery is not 100% but due to my wife sitting me down in front of your amazing game it helped immeasurably. I still play Civ 5 on a regular basis - sorry I don’t like 6, poor graphics and everything takes so long for turns. I just wanted to say thank you for helping me recover.

Civilization I was my very first PC game after Warcraft: Orcs and Humans. I played the CIV series and peaked at CIV IV. I played CIV V very briefly and was sorely disappointed.. I felt they nerfed it to appease a more general crowd such as the artwork becoming more cartoony, the unrealism that even in the year 2000 there would be about a 1/3 of the land math still not claimed by a nation-state, etc. I didn't even bother with CIV VI and now get my grand strategy fix with Europa Universalis and Hearts of Iron :)
@kitzschy
@kitzschy 4 жыл бұрын
@@roseforeuropa Also played every iteration from the first one on, easily thousands of hours combined. I think the recent streamlining has both its pros and cons, but mostly I see it as a positive development. Games (especially later on) tend to flow much smoother now that there's no finicky management of "stacks of doom" and you can (and have to) play combat more strategically as opposed to just pumping out more units and steamrolling with sheer quantity. In terms of logistics and supply chains this seems more realistic as well. The hex system is also arguably better as it makes all directions equal and removes the kind of OP weirdness of diagonal movement. I also really like the district system from Civ VI as it adds another much needed layer of depth and meaningful decision-making in the city-building (and planning!) to allow for and reward actual specialization of each city, whereas before you would eventually build just about everything everywhere anyway, which makes for a very repetitive process with very little thought involved. Separating the technology and civic trees also makes sense, and the eureka/inspiration boosts make for an interesting new mechanic to reward a more balanced approach as opposed to cheesier strategies that play almost solely into your one strength. Having said that, the differentiation between civilizations and leaders has also added some interesting variables into the mix. I think it's currently a pretty good balance overall, with all kinds of interesting dilemmas. The other new additions like natural disasters are more cosmetic, but don't hurt either. I'll give you the unclaimed land thing, although that's highly dependent of map size and type and the amount of civilizations in the game. I think it also keeps the late game more interesting when every inch of land hasn't been claimed yet. The city territories can also be viewed as more of a de facto developed part of your empire, whereas the political borders are intentionally left more ambiguous and debatable. Territorial disputes can and do happen to this day, and it would be kind of superfluous and excessive to include in the game such on-paper ownership of remote areas that doesn't involve actually settling in or utilizing them in any way. Settling near foreign territories is made more challenging without being outright impossible, which makes for some enticing expansion gameplay all the way to the end, allowing for sneaky land grabs and "culture bombing" around strategic resources and locations all that. In the end the main priority should always be keeping the gameplay continually interesting, IMO, and if that means some hand-wavy solutions in terms of strict realism then so be it. In a sense I think it's always been one of the key strengths of the Civilization games that they leave many of the details vague enough to not get bogged down by such technicalities that could never be simulated fully accurately and comprehensively anyway. Either way, it's always nice to have options available for every kind of grand strategy itch.
