The size and shape of a speaker cabinet plays an important role in sound quality. Paul helps us understand how.

Great stuff Paul! The physics behind this question aren't all that complicated but I think most of us don't realize that's just how it works:)

It is always amazing how Paul can make something out of a question any normal person would not know where to start. To illustrate, if this was about architecture: How do walls affect a house?

Excellent explanation. Thanks very much for another great vid! Paul, I’m gonna set up a tent, live in your garden, and live off of pizzas from your oven, btw. I’m sure you probably know this, but the original picture of Nipper had him sitting on his master’s casket. Kinda eerie.

Great intuitive vid. I learn so much from these vids. But all the info can be overwhelming for non audiophiles. Seeking the Best Sound is in the mind of the Beholder as it is generally subjective. And really trying to match different speakers with different Amps is also is a major project which will take lots of time, effort, patience.

This probably won't be seen, but I'm particularly wondering about the difference between the tall and slimmer floor-standing speakers, versus the more conventional (or now old-fashioned?) rectangle boxes that don't have a whole lot of cabinet below the area where the drivers are. - This often also makes the drivers in one of those "pillar" boxes smaller, like an array of 6" woofers, and the wider boxes of course allow for larger drivers, like 10-12-15 inch woofers. - I really wonder how they stack up to each other. - I have some of both types, but I can't really easily get them into the same room together. Besides, they sound too different from each other anyway.

I agree with Paul with sub woofer's you want them to hide in your system. I also agree that you have to find the right sub woofer for your system and it depends on what type of music you listen to. Bc you want it as if you were listening to the music live.

Sealed boxes have a "air spring" effect. The bigger the volume the less resistance your woofer/subfoofer gets, but they can't be too large then you bottom them out (unless you are talking about infinite baffle)
@Oystein87
@Oystein87 3 жыл бұрын
Same actually goes for a ported box. But the "spring" effekt is less than im a sealed box. And a infinite baffle makes speakers bottom out easier than a box would anyway.

Hi. I am from INDIA. I love your videos❤️❤️❤️ from which I learned a lot. I decided to build my own dual 3 way speakers for casual listening and bought some of the components for them, which is listed below. Could you suggest an good enclosure for it. I need it to be smaller. Components bought- 2*Tweeter - 250 watt. "3.15"inch 2*Mid range - 25-40 watt. "4"inch 2*Woofer - 10- 80 watt. "8"inch The above listed every drivers are 4ohms. 2*3 way crossover Stereo amplifier circuit (ic4440) 2*50watt output Bluetooth and usb module 12v 3 amps transformer Every design ideas are respected.

@@johnsweda2999 The woofers are all in parallel. The amplifier is designed for loads just under 1 ohm. Tweeters and midranges are in series/parallel combinations.

@@marianneoelund2940 right that's pushing it at 1 Ohm's are they 16 ohm speakers or 8 ohms with a resistor

@@johnsweda2999 Voice coil DC resistance is 4 ohms, which means the nominal impedance would be around 6-8 ohms for each woofer. There are six in parallel for each channel.

I’ve come to prefer a closed box with DSP tuning and servo sub. The imprecision and boomy bass using bass reflex or transmission line; or the somewhat random room reflections using dipole are added effects that ruin most music I like.
@jareknowak8712
@jareknowak8712 3 жыл бұрын
I also prefer closed box. With open baffle - You are sitting inside the cabinet, bc the whole room is the speaker box. Open baffle gives interesting expirience, but not accurate sound.

@Fat Rat some things are mesurable, like wave/wall reflections. I experimented with open baffles in the late '90s, before it was "cool". Not gonna change my mind about speaker cabinets.

When we going to see these new speakers you keep banging on about going to show us a picture or 2, really doesn't make much difference if you show them now or afterwards. did you sort out that bracing issue did you try two cross members shaped as a opposite triangle fastened in the middle. You should turn the box like any musical instruments try e flat (c) all rights received for tuning a speaker box patent pending. just in case you get some bright Ideas. The IRS 5 are they servo controlled and if are they originally digital or analogue servo feedback

You might see his fantasy speakers in 2025. I've never seen it take a manufacturer take this long to produce speakers. Obviously they are struggling with a lot. The more ridiculous thing is that he's mentioned like five different prices for them. And I love how it just keeps on going up and up and up and up.
