if they're charging 20%, their margins have to be small, unless they're buying at cost. regardless, great to hear about someone creating something new and hearing their story and journey

The struggle wasn't that hard for him if he had the money to live in Japan for a few years by himself. I noticed that a lot of the people they interview already had a little start up money. I'm not knocking the hustle but let's call a spade a spade, it's easier to do big things when you have a little fall back money. So far the majority of the people that Complex is interviewing have a little bit of money to hold them down. I love what they are doing thou for the most part...

It's true when you have ca$h from selling a start-up company too, ha. As McPheters said he had ends to do this. Fieg of Kith seemed to have strong financial connects to hold him even if he claim to "not have much money" in his family. Yet he turned down an envelope of $$$ to work in a sporting good store, hmmm... yeah Felix agreed, no diss to them but starting the 100 yard dash at 70 yards must be nice.

Exactly, no hate involved I respect the hustle 110%! But like you said starting the 100 yard dash 70 yards in already isn't really much of a risk. I respect their work ethic, as a hustler myself I love to see people chase and catch up to there dreams. I just don't like people to paint a picture like they were living out of their cars like Tyler Perry. Talk about coming from nothing, Tyler was dead ass homeless, now thats who he needs to be interviewing. People who came from SHIT, that inspires someone like me because I also come from SHIT and I'm not to proud to say it. I believe that if most people were given some start-up money to work on their dreams we would have a lot more successful people in this world, but for the majority of us we have to live in the real world of busting our asses for every dime and connect that we make.

I sense this nyc-middle class-whiteboy-goes-from-Hip Hop-fan-to-'street'-designer success is a symptom of the current exclusive sneaker craze. This lifestyle birthed in Black & Latino neighborhoods is percieved as a lucrative opportunity and quick insertion into the hip circles especially if you can't rap or DJ very well (though that hasn't stopped others). Supreme, Kith, Stadium Goods and numerous other brands founders' the same trajectory of being skaters with a curiosity / involvement in Hip Hop culture and apparel is an opening. Notice how each of these guys has a partner with connections and a more commercial interest in the products? They even look the same (ha) and probably have cultural similarities... I'm not saying everyone has to start dead ass broke in the gutter to stardom & millions for this series. The stories are still inspiring even if they got it dropped in their laps as a teen. Just be more honest in titling. An example can be shown in Todd McFarlane's story in Blueprint. His youth background isn't as important as that he started as an artist for dominant publishers Marvel & DC and was able to create Spawn and Image Comics in the midst of those 2 powerhouses and fight to the top. He disrupted the game legitimately. Still all a great series,
