Might I recommend carrying mace/pepper spray and for a last ditch effort possibly a rape whistle to get others attention. *PS, I think what you ladies are doing is brave and sets an example for everyone that people should be more kind to the biker/bike messenger community in a whole. Be safe and ride on. One last note, many bikers/bike messengers have started using cameras to document what happens the good and the bad it can always be helpful to show who, when, and where it happened.

so, I was a messenger for a long time in SF.first and foremost as far as street harresment it is far worse to be a woman then a man making delivery's. in my small slice of the industry I thought it was not sexist. I could be quite wrong.i hope that where you ride, you as a woman know or knew that if you can get to the spot the brothers and sisters have your back. if you didn't feel that then every messenger in your town needs to take a hard look at themselves. in SF that's a given that we all have each other's backs. bigger picture the female riders deal with more shit, and more demeaning bullshit then men. to finish I just wanted to say, and think about the fact that both male and female Messengers are dehumanized and brutalized as the normal cost of work. signed a 15 year Frisco vet.

I once had a girl shout at the same thing to me, and ask me if I could give her a ride on my bike, and she was laughing with all her friends, I think they were tourists. I rang my bell and said "Sure, but I'm late for work," and everybody laughed. I guess it's different when a girl flirtatiously asks a gut that in a fun way.

that's what i thought too. what kind of messengers are they? There must be no deadlines because every show i've watched on bike couriers talks about how competitive the business is. Their rides show the wear and tear, the messengers look the part, and have enough nerve to zip around in traffic, not coast along enjoying the sunshine on the way.

I think it's inhumane how this occurs to women, I actually know some of the female messengers in the city. I just never knew how rough they have it. I am very open-minded, and I respect all types of human-beings. I just know that the cops WILL not do anything at all, they're worthless and unlawful. You need to take actions onto your own hands. I would've got my U-lock, swung at the guy's hand, and then sprint fast as hell out of there. Maybe it will do something, but it could land you in trouble and not them, right? What a world we live in... How pitiful. No human male should never treat women like a sex object... How pathetic. I tell some of my buds that catcalling is harassment, and it's never okay. I guess they will have to find out the hard way at this new generation of time. The next person who catcalls, I am the one who will call them out on it! Rather it's street thugs, construction workers, hell, it could be anyone. I'll catch 'em.

Then these guys who never learned their manners will not want to act that way. Guarentee they fear being confronted about it.

I was a bike msgr in the 90s and had lit cigarette thrown at my head, nasty comments, and worst was loser who slapped my backside from a moving car which wasn't funny and caused me injury. Back then we had to wear spandex company uniforms which didn't help the situation. Also got called "juice queen" because I did a lot of runs one day and accused of *ing the dispatcher. Guys who worked with me & some of the other couriers were my brothers though and they looked out for me. We used to ride with krypto locks on our bars and had the bar part on a bungee cord thing that we used to defend ourselves if need arose....could dent a car or a head ....jk

I cannot begin to testify just how unfair it is for women whether it be in the workforce or the type of activities we choose to do in the constitution of our freedoms. I worked in a bicycle shop and was the only female on board and the guys back then made my work life really unpleasant implying that a female does not belong in a place such as cycling. I know one thing for sure I definitely need to testify the truth about many matters among men vs. Women or the rich vs. Poor; just how difficult it is for the two and ongoing discriminations...I should write a book about just how abusive and unconstitutional USA is toward women and the poor.

The amount of pathetic men on this thread who think harassment is about attraction. It's about power and men asserting their dominance over women for sport and to make themselves feel manly. Trying to erase the experiences of women because it's actually embarrassing to accept that some men behave like this. Imagine if someone were to do this to your mum or sister. And no it's not flattering to be groped or catcalled or having in the back of your head, is this man a rapist.

To me, personally I feel they're experiencing what use guys experience with other perverted guys. There's women out there on social media who portray themselves as sexual objects. Go on most social media and you'll see half naked women. It's those types of women who mess it up for the other women, same thing as perverted men they're talking about messes it up for the good guys out there. I'm not saying that touching anyone unwanted is okay. Just stating it happens on both sides.

This is why many messenger companies don't hire females unless there tough and manly. They whine and cry about the most petty things. Why did this film feature the most unattractive women to showcase ? I don't believe a word they said about being harrassed...too fat and and one had too many tattoos... yuck!

Cedric Bethea every kind of woman gets harassed, men do it for fun, it's got nothing to do with being attractive, it's to exert dominance. In the UK if a bike company were to not hire females, they would find themselves on the end of a discrimination claim.

bike messenger is a pretty blue collar job, when the rubber hits the road. you sweat, it's more dirty then you think, you are always working on your bike, and it's way more dangerous then you think. also the pay is shit for the most part. as a dude that spent a long time in the industry, I have always been in fear for my life, at least once a week more probably every day. male Messengers get harassed all the fucking time. street violence is normal. that being said, female riders have in my experience a hell of a worse time on the road. I am not trying to belabor a point that should be obvious, but the women in the biz, as I see it, experience more street violence, and more sexual harassment then any man that rides a bicycle for 8 or 10 hours a day. if you, bro, don't think that is true then go ahead, put on a skirt and play in traffic for 8 hours a day for, idk maybe 3 months.

I think a lot of this is people being derogitory because they are messengers and happen to use female specific names because they happen to be women. Christ, I have had instances of female receptionists making unusuan comments when I was a messnger. I recall one who asked where I had been after having broken my elbow upon explaining this she explained that she has broken "bones" but not her own ...wink wink. OMG I am so traumatizes...NOT! Hell, as a make messenger, the more receptionists made leud or sexual comments to me the better! Hell yeah, grab my ass! Guess guys are just different. Recently, I was walking down town and a group of 3 girls and 1 guy were walking the same direction but I was hurrying to my graveyard shift. I forget what they were saying but they were drunk and had these sticks of bread. One girl whacked my ass with bread and I laughed, it was funny and they were cute when it dawned on me how ,if I wanted too, I could make up some ridiculous claim that I was sexually harrassed and shit. I thought, what if I were a girl and these were men? They could get in shit for that. I dunno. I am not female but I think people have become so worried about being perceived as being too agressive that no one can flirt or hit on anyone without second guessing if they will get targetted as being a creep. No wonder its difficult to meet people . The thing is that if some chick iis into you and you flirt with them its cool and they love it but should you happen to do it and they aren't interested you are now some sick disturbed weirdo. No wonder guys don't try anymore. I think society has become a bit too overly libtarded and super sensitive. I shall now be ready to get a bunch of lefty hate, let it begin...

schlooonginator dude you are completely simplistic in your comparison. what if a bunch of men grabbed you up, and were physically stronger and faster than you so you were actually in danger. That is the male to female dynamic, completely different.

Men matters too, but i guess it's just a matter of fact that its MUCH more safer to be a male messenger than a female. And most of the times male messengers are ignored cause its normal but its rare to see female being messengers. And also the risk is higher for female, but that doesnt mean male messengers arent harrassed, but at the same time if its a female imagine if they came across a group of men they can be easily dragged away, but if its a male they'll more likely ignore you

It does seem weird, but actually cycling isn't an effective weight loss method if not combined it with a diet plan and good rest periods. I imagine as a bike messenger the wages are extremely low and your busy 24/7 leaving little time for proper rest. Maintaining a lightweight road bike is very costly, thus making it difficult to afford healthier foods and the time to prepare them. Eating cheap carbohydrates all day long might be all they can afford to do what they do. Regardless these ladies must have terrific health, strength, and stamina. They would be able to ride harder/longer than most of the people watching this video. Good job gals, keep it up.

You can be over average in terms of weigh and still be very fit to bike and even swim. Excess fat affects running more than biking.

Sam Vander Linda Um, no maintaining a lightweight bike is not costly.. Spending 200 bucks a year on a bottom bracket, a chain or 2, and a cassette, is nothing.. you could find 200 bucks a year on the ground if you had to..

Okay here's the real problem women like to be one person during the day and one person during the night you want to be able to sit on the web cams and sell yourself to men all night long and collect that money and beg for men to buy you things on your websites to see you naked and then when men treat you the same way out in public you complain about it I'm not saying it all women I'm just saying it most women in the majority of women get treated very wrong because of this practice now if you women did a better job of policing each other then there wouldn't be this problem you'd have room or respect in public you need to step up a plate and start putting these women out of business from doing this practice it's not the men's fault it's the woman's fault because they're the ones on the web cams website selling themselves and saying putting up things ain't go buy this for me on Amazon if you really like me to get free stuff so you have no right to complain until you address your own groups attention in society step up the plate clean your house then you can complain otherwise quit whining about being groped in public that's why you're treated the way you were treated the cops know it everybody knows it the majority of women want to be this sexual animal on the internet without having to put up with the groping during the day you can't have both

It's hard for me to empathize. But when that chick said "i don't even want to ride anymore" that struck home for some reason. And i remember the times i talked myself out of riding because of all the vicious farm dogs where i live that constantly chase me. It's really disheartening. I'm sure its a similar feeling. The part i cant empathize with is why sexual harassment is at all threatening, but i suppose its all relative. And how dare you suggest that not riding a bike is the answer lol. Ride or Die!

I dunno, some dudes will catcall anything remotely female that moves. And even though I most of these ladies wouldn't have a shot at winning a traditional beauty contest (beauty is in the eye of the beholder) a certain type of guy may feel less intimidated and think that because these girls seem anti-establishment with all their tats and piercings and think that they may have a better chance with them. I saw a guy catcall "hey baby!" at a skater chick the other day (she was kinda cute but too scrawny for my taste), and she had that whole grungy, punky look to her with the green hair and the nose rings and whatnot.

These ladies are SO TOUGH that they can't handle a few words being spoken to them. 3:10 5 jobs a day? LOL. Even 10 is laughable. In Canada we're doing 40+ a day average, through winter too. 40 drops, so that's 80+ stops in 8hrs. 4:10 Yes, we do worry about assaults. Just because you can fight doesn't mean you'll win or that you'll walk away unscathed even if you do fend them off. Especially in cities like Philly etc. I wouldn't fuck around in North Phil or Kensington area if i didn't have to. Do they really think we just walk around like superman all day?
