Holy smokes, that got dicey! The challenge said that "pawns" had to capture material values, not that "*your* pawns" had to capture such a value of materials. So actually, the pawn recapture at 4... fxe5 contributed one point of material for challenge purposes, and your Queen was movable within the challenge rules after 18. exd6 Of course, by that time, you didn't really need your Queen to win anyway, but awesome work taking down a 100-rated player without moving the Royalty at all!

This give me an idea. What about?: In order to activate any single piece (not pawn) you must spend number of points equal to floor function of value of that piece. You earn points whenever pawn captures a piece or pawn (your or your opponent's) equal to point value of captured material. I wander which challenge is harder.

@@themobius5798 ooh, time to analyze text! Ok, so it says specifically "Before a piece can move, pawns must capture an equal amount of material to the piece you want moving" Now, without any extra interpretation, or changes to make a challenge more doable, the first piece of the challange would imply every piece (which if we go by drawback chess rules, piece = pawn) is affected by the rule. However, in the next section, it exempts all pawns from that rule, as their movement and captures is what will unlock the challange. And then in the "piece you want moving" part, it clarifies that your opponents pieces are also unaffected by the challenge, as you can only cause your pieces to move on any normal turn (tbf, that was worded weirdly in the challenge, so a little confusing) Ergo: either side's pawns are able to captuer and add to the counter, due to the wording of the challenge.
