So awesome! I think TVPaint is going to become more and more popular as more studios discover how excellent it is.

@@user-jd1hy9bg1d how? You just draw if your looking for the puppet stuff that's but what tv paint is for

@@user-jd1hy9bg1d Ok, use whatever software you prefer (what do you use?) , but many people disagree with you that TVPaint is counter-intuitive. Many top animators and studios use TVPaint. The thing I found interesting was reading how many top animators (like Aaron Blaise) would say that TVPaint was the animation program that reminded him the most of animating traditionally with pencil on paper . In fact it was the intuitive nature of the drawing tools that was the most appealing aspect of TVPaint. Of course, mastering TVPaint is just like mastering any other software: at the beginning, there is a learning curve . Don't give up too easily, stick with it and make a commitment to learn. Too many people want to find a software that "does the animation" for them. It doesn't exist. That's not how it works, especially for hand drawn animation. Yes, it's a lot of work, but it is not counter-intuitive.

OMG! This is the stuff I have been saying for over 15 years!! Why are they just getting into this in Japan now?! When I visited studios in Japan last year *only one* was truly digital. Most are still drawing on paper. Don't get me wrong, I do understand. Even I still draw better on paper, and the veterans that you want to do great work on your show draw better on paper too, but this is *still a business,* and it is a *struggling* business at the moment. This change is needed!
@mark009vn
@mark009vn 5 жыл бұрын
Certain things are still faster traditionally, and it makes sense for paper to be used inhouse since it can be handled quickly between 2-3 different animators. Licences for software and hardware are also expensive which prohibits investment. Still, digital is the preferred method for offsite work.
@teiadam134
@teiadam134 4 жыл бұрын
We're allowed to choose digital or traditional. Most doga artists do it traditional but for key animators and foreign animators working in anime productions through the internet they can choose to do traditional or digital. The studio will usually print out your work if it's digital, but you have to make notations on your timeline and on your work.

This is such a wonderful look into the animation industry production in Japan! I was curious though, in the video he has reference images on screen while working, is there a way to put things outside the canvas in TVPaint or does he just have a very large canvas?
@TVPaint

Thank you! Yes, you can put images outside the canvas using the Guidelines tool. :) Here is a tutorial about it: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/opmdmdqkuJfIh3U.html

@@Soldiershak it means "outside the canvas" in terms of using guidelines and vanishing points (for drawing with accurate perspective.) If you want to have windows open that are outside of the main project window in TVPaint you need to detach the project window from the timeline and playback bar, so the project window is free floating. Other windows around it can be for reference images or custom tool panels, which are also free floating. This works best using a larger monitor (like a 27" or 32" Cintiq) or using the TVPaint interface spread out over two or more monitors.

Interesting.. but I must say although I'm a big fan of flcl, and I was very excited about the second season, something about the visual style was off-putting for me. Looked too sharp or something.. Maybe I'll give it another chance now knowing it was done digitally.

informative video. love how show people talk in interviews. only thing that's kinda a shame about the new cost cutting techniques is that it deters high quality animation. also while cost cutting effects help more stuff get produced it makes it more difficult to distinguish yourself aesthetically. for me personally quality over quantity.

Do the chaotic, non intuitive and non practical interface and ergonomy (shortcuts ans tidying of the menus for example) have a bit changed since the time I used it 4 years ago ? It cans look like a troll com but it isn't. Ok maybe a bit but I'm really interested if there are some essential changes, this soft frustrate me a lot.
