Hey Rick. I've used that method to prove and show that the local oscillator wasn't working on several occasions on both AM and FM radios. Also the color mix was a very good way to show how the frequencies mix. Very good demo indeed. :)

Another great educational video Thank you. As a kid of 5 in 1960 the mixing of those pixies has always fascinated me . I found a Rocket Radio in the garbage and have been interested ever since.

Rick, I owned a Motorola Two-Way Comms dealership from 1977 through 2017, hold a 2nd Class ROL (the 'really pretty wall-hanger' certificate, not that "orange copy paper thingy"), and now understand far more about superhet in both theory, and soon, hopefully, in practice. I have three 50's Zeniths, a Crosley, and two "braille radios" in the lineup at my bench, and I'll be performing a much more 'observant' alignment procedure on them thanks to this video. I'll probably cut my ROL into tiny pieces, and mix them in with my corn flakes tomorrow morning!

Am band is ~ 540 KHz to 1600KHz. Thanks to your video I now understand why 455KHz comes up so often in these things because it is below the AM band.

Thanks. So the + side and the - side are both there, exactly the same and adding up to zero. So nothing to amplify. The diode strips of one side and then there is a signal to amplify. This is a good Thanksgiving for me. I've managed to find a great video here and a great short series on explaining and modifying an audio amplifier on another channel. It's actually hard to find explanations that fill in all the blanks, this one did it for me. Have a nice weekend.

Hello from New Zealand. I found this a very good demo. However, no mention of AGC. What I have been trying to find out, is why, on many AA5 's is the frame of the tuning gang connected to the AGC and not to chassis? If anyone can help, thanks.
