I love this video. Not because of the food, which is sublime. I love it because this man is reconnecting with his earliest memories, with his granny and with generations past through the food. And that made me cry

Knowing that these recipes have never been written down, whenever I make something that my child loves I carefully write out the recipe and put it in a special box for them when they are grown. When I am gone they'll still be able to make the foods I made with love and remember their childhood.

Ruby Twilite You are amazing. I lost my dad when I was 12 and my mom when I was 14... I wish so much that I could remember how to make several of her recipes. The gift of food and memories that you are leaving for them is priceless.

His story of him finding his grandmother's recipe is so beautiful that it brought tears to my eyes. Its truly a gift to find yourself back in those moments that you can call bliss and remember loved ones you have lost. 💗 I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to some day taste these tamales💗

@@DeeOne88 Dog, if you crush up a bunch of dried chiles to make a seasoning, it's going to get into the air. Think about how they actually get treated in a kitchen environment, not how they act sitting in a bag.

@@seymourglass26 I don't have to think about how they get "treated" in the kitchen because I experienced it with my mother when she cooked. As a kid I remember playing super Nintendo and all of a sudden I get a whiff of that fresh chile being blended/cooked and I would start coughing my lungs out. Whenever she cooked with dried chiles no such thing would ever happen.

@@DeeOne88 A single example doesn't create a logical rule. Dried chiles only give off less of that aroma because they lack the moisture to do it. He clearly rehydrates his chiles and smelling that liquid will make you choke if you are sensitive.

This is America!!! I am from Hawaii of three different ethnicities. What I love of my hone town is how people like this man brought and shared with everyone...his love of his natural country:). The same love that has been shared by all in our country from theirs to ours to theirs and ours❤️. He is a master of tamales. And one day I must have one❤️

In Korea town area of Los Angeles, There a lady who sold Mole tamales on the corner.. They were amazing! Best tamales I've ever had.. Kuddos to this guy for connecting with his grandma's spirit

I’ve never met this man may never have the opportunity to do so, but I couldn’t help but love him like a brother when he spoke of his abuelas, and showed his humility and amazing determination to replicate those lost recipes! just get the right ingredients and they will transport you to the past. remember we didn't had the wheel, so we did everything by walking and running. maybe all the time it takes for the foreigner and american ingredients is just right. and get yourself a METATE and MOLCAJETE ;)

@@jackingofftoraelilblack2342hombre que yo entiendo lo que dices, incluso entiendo que hay unas preparaciones que por tradición general son "oficiales", pero no quiere decir que tengas ser tan majadero en la manera en la que hablas acerca de el y de su manera de prepararlo, yo soy de Puerto Rico y trabajo mayormente con sea food, y preparo el ceviche de una manera en la que cualquier peruano me demandaria, pero otros no y lo preparo para boricuas y les encanta, pero estoy MUY conciente de que no es "Peruano" mi ceviche, pereces el tipico cliente que te critica por no hacerlo a su manera, saludos!

😂 nothing is natural anymore, unlesss you basically grow it your self, raise cattle(grass fed) and butcher it yourself, it is pretty much processed and preserved!

My Dad used to make tamales very much like he is doing. I used to help him make the nixtamal ( corn wash and gtind them) . Lots of work. My Dad used to sell them on weekends.

Yo tengo un cernero identico al tuyo Me hiciste suspirar al ver tu video ya que yo hago el mismo proseso Yo compro la harina fresca por cuestiones de espacio, tiempo y equipo Pero el sernir la harina le da una textura sin igual que solo los del centro del pais de México o alrededor del CDMX podemos reconocer e identificar Soy del Estado de México pero vivo en Chicago hace muchos años y mi historia y recuerdo es igual que la tuya ya que mis padres fueron tamaleros por oficio y de ese recuerdo yo aprendí mucho .. Mi proseso es similar al tuyo prácticamente me vi me identifique contigo por que asi soy Desde lavar mis chiles sernir la harina lavar hojas batir a mano Men..... Es una experiencia única pero una buna friega pero la satisfacción y el paladar al probar ese tipo de tamal lo distingue ante muchos tipos de tamal... Ver tu video quiza es una señal para ya hiniciar mi negocio en chicago Cuando hago es solo para la familia Oye cuando haras tamales me preguntan pero x la friega no hago tan seguido Les encantan ..... Si recuerdas o viste alguna vez en mexico en los molinos hay sernidoras y batidoras mecanidas esa es una buena opción para ahorrar tiempo y esfuezo Por que la serrnida es trabajosa y tardada la batida una cansada pero da gusto lo disfrutas mas si lo haces con el corazón Es mi respuesta cada que me preguntan que le pongo amis tamales con una sonrrisa respondo les pongo corazón.. Animo te deseo todo el exito del mundo Que viva nuestra tradiciones por generaciones .... PSDD: no olvides incluir las guajolotas a tu menu

I felt the same way when I rediscovered my passion for cooking. Recreating the flavours of my childhood (although not this complex) really made me feel like home again.
