The beauty community is always full of drama, but controversy has always been closely tied to the cosmetics industry, long before people like Kylie Jenner, Jeffree Star or James Charles were even born. Today we take a trip back in time to study the history of makeup - by studying people like Madam C.J. Walker, Max Factor, brands like Clinique and Revlon, we can get a better understanding of how the industry works today. Also, Wilfur has a makeup palette now apparently.

Fact: Cleopatra was actually greek.She was a descendant of Ptolemy, one of Alexander the Great's generals who ruled Egypt after Alexander's death

@Mini Snakal Well, Alexander the Great conquered Egypt and he was crowned pharaoh but then he died at 33. Therefore his empire was divided amongst his generals. Ptolemy was the one who got Egypt and he founded a new, greek dynasty of pharaohs called the Ptolemaic dynasty. Cleopatra was a descentant of Ptolemy. Even her name is greek."Κλεος"( cleos) means glory and "πατερ" (pater) means father. So her name means "the one who brings glory to her father"

Themelina Trikilis There are more than 10 generations between Cleopatra and Ptolemy. If people really believe that she was pure Greek, after ten generations in Africa, in a lineage full of affairs and other dalliances where it can’t be guaranteed that every child is from the father... then I’m not sure what to tell you, lol. They aren’t “GrEeK” in the pure sense lol. They definitely have Greek ancestry but Egypt, at the time, was very cosmopolitan. We don’t even know Cleo’s grandma... how can we be sure of her racial identity?

@@EfikZara You do have a point however ( at least from my personal research) I think that most historians side with Cleopatra being Greek.. You see the Ptolemys fully adopted egyptian culture even the not so great parts, like incestuous relationships betweeen pharaohs. So Cleopatra was at least mostly Greek. Overly sarcastic productions have a very informative video about the Ptolemys on their channel. You can check it out if you want to.

Darya actual makeup artists that you can learn from are not involved in drama. Lisa Eldridge, Wayne Goss, Pixiwoo, are all popular channels that get a lot of views, but not in the millions like a Jeffree or James. You can watch someone like Jeffree without even being a makeup user, because he is still entertaining as a person. That's why he has SO many views.

They won't, everyone already knows how to do makeup so nobody wants tutorials anymore. There's countless videos out there telling you all you need. Nobody watches influences for makeup anymore, people only watch because of stan culture and they feel like they have to be a "real fan". To maintain a relevant channel, you have to have some big product release (which only gets traction because you already have a whole stan culture around you), get a collab with morphe or something, or get into drama.

I really loved your video. It's so educational and smart. Sometimes people forget that makeup is "more than lipstick", it's a business that will only continue to grow, a place where you need intelligence and expertise to thrive in.
