Agree, Mizzou was never one of the best teams in the Big 12. It’s FB program has never been relevant in the SEC. the state has serious internal issue it refuses to address.

@@eleetfleet4506Missouri has massive racial issues. Most northern state in confederacy. MIZZOURI Located in rural racist area. Blk student had enuf and SHUT DOWN sports teams Missouri had to forfeit numerous home fb games. Coach resigned and AD resigned. First time in NCAA history blk players took over. Many alumni were pissed as they always believed the threat of pulling scholarships would keep players in line. Ole Miss and LSU used to have same issues that why Florida schools used to be so deep in talent, but they addressed it and gave black HS coaches and their kids respect and look at LSU now. Mizzou never showed proper respect to KC and St. Louis blk kids so if your good you bounce. But it still hangs over program and many alum still can’t believe blk athletes could shut down up a D1 school like that. Mizzou will never attract top tier Deep South athletes and cannot keep its top athletes (st Louis and KC) so how the frog will they ever compete in SEC.

@@redsoxfan2107 As an alum, you are delusional get some help bro. Columbia? Racist? Jesus get a grip. The whole county is democrats, it's a college town ffs. The reasoning that the football team protested I have always found dumb but they were more than welcome to do it. In the grand scheme of Mizzou football and concerned student 1950 has nothing to do with the performance of the team. For the most part it comes down to some bad coaching decisions. How are you going to say that Mizzou "was never a big player" in the b12 when Gary Pinkel is in the CFB college HOF and 3 B12 North titles? How are you going to say that Mizzou has no relevance in the SEC with 2 SEC east titles in the short time they have been in the conference. How are you going to say that Mizzou can't nab recruits in STL & KC when Mizzou just landed the top recruit out of STL this year. Man you are delusional talking about race. If you're that worried about "blk people taking over" go look at any D1 football team's roster right now, you might be shocked it's mostly black people. Get over it and get help.

What happened to Maty Mauk? He played average to below average competition in high school. He never had to work hard at his craft because (physically) he was so much better than everyone else. This caused him to develop a poor work ethic and bad habits on/off the field. That followed him to the University of Missouri and the rest is history!

A big part of the problem is in equating high school stats with assessing next level or next-next level potential. There is so much more to next level potential than being able to light it up against 135lb DB's and a lot of underachieving defensive HS coaches.

Great video! My brother is a referee in the Western Buckeye League in northwest Ohio and worked a number of his games, as well as his brother's games, for a number of years. That 8 second video was definitely his undoing and it was a real shame. I think that he had a "big head" because he was "the man" in high school and he just didn't understand that college football is a whole lot tougher than high school football. Some people just have to learn the hard way I suppose. I only hope that he will have a great life since his football career is apparently at an end because there is so much more to life than just football or sports in general. Again, great video and I look forward to many, many more of your videos!

I coach allstar team in KCMO that we pick up kids from the area . We had a couple of players want to tryout so they sent me game film & ive seen alot of crap teams with typical coaching but 10min into film I was blown away with the offense so i made phone call to one of the kids dads just to ask who's coaching your son . He just say do you remember Matty Mauk that's who is his offensive cord is. These are 13 14 yr old kids that was running a college quick offense with a empty set 95% of the time throwing the ball all over the field. Like was said everything I've heared he's doing good and most important to me was the kids loved playing for him and kids don't hold back about those things.

This same thing crosses over to many careers. Musicians, actors, etc. You can be incredibly talented and good at what you do, but do not have the mental fortitude to put it all together into a professional career. Doesn't matter how good you are, if you don't have the work ethic and willingness to play by the rules, you may as well just stay home.

Blue Mountain State is such an underrated show. I still go back and watch it every now and then... Also, how many frikan games were they playing at his high school. I played high school ball in the early 2000's and we played 11 regular season games and a possible 12th game for the Superbowl. For these stats to make sense, I feel like they had to be playing at least 15 games per season. That works out to approx 400 yards passing, 5 TD passes and 40 yds rushing per game on average.

Some superstar high school athletes are those who have physically matured faster than their peers, IMO. So they stand out in high school, but when they get to college, the others are catching up in physical levels. The once-superstar may now be average. That's a hard pill to swallow after being hyped up as a superstar with a brilliant future for years while growing up. Not everyone handles it well.

Im glad he got his life in order. Michael Irvin was busted several times for Coke and today people still look up to him. Arkansas had a good player by the name of Matt Jones who made it to the NFL and was decent, however, he was busted with Coke as well. Its true, its not how you start its how you finish an glad to see Maty corrected his errors in life.

All the stats in the world but he was still only a 3 star recruit and was number 20 qb in that class. Maybe he goes farther than college but by far not a 5 star blue chip prospect

He was probably a 3 star because nobody had seen him play against top tier teams. If he put those kind of numbers up in a super competitive division he might have got 1 more star.

The most surprising thing about this story is the fact he is a defensive coordinator. With everything he learned about playing the quarterback position I would think he'd be the quarterback coach.

Yes he put up numbers but he was a 4 star recruit ranked No. 307 in his class, he wasn't even the top rated QB the year he graduated. His other offers were Ball State, Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, Michigan, Illinois, Kent State. Not exactly the most highly recruited. Makes me wonder what his competition was like.

@@joeycobb6697 And what are Ball State, Kent State and Illinois? Yes ND and Michigan are good programs but if this guy was really the "best QB in high school history" Alabama or Ohio State would have offered. And keep in mind Michigan was in the middle of the Brady Hoke era just coming off the Rich Rod years two years earlier. The program was in a downswing.
