It's kinda crazy that seeing a community manages to ruin a Multi Billion dollar company 😂😂 that's how much people that plays their games.

There is a bit more context to this that Mujin did not go into. The majority of the people who were outraged by the anniversary were people that came from other gotcha games. If you look at the majority of other gotcha games anniversary events, they would give out a ton of free wishes, in some cases 50 or more, a free five star and a free costume or two and have a plethora of paid costumes. Not only that, they would advertise these anniversary events a few weeks to month or so in advance to draw in players, new and old. Compared to Mihoyo, they said nothing about the anniversary until the day of and only gave out the anniversary rewards after a huge backlash from the player base.

Bran went from clicking off the video as soon as a "band member" showed up to now waiting for a "band member" to show up at the end of the video 😂

I remember when i don't play Genshin yet in 2020..i was Playing mobile legend.. And that time.. Mobile legend having a 5th anniversary.. Because of the Genshin chaos happend..Moonton decided to gives us MLBB player extra reward in anniversary 💀.. I was laughing the living heck out of me 💀--

For the record, the paid glider wasn't associated directly with anniversary, but for the first concert. You could argue the concert was associated with the anniversary, so with the ongoing controversy it wouldn't have looked good to sell the planned pack. Like the upcoming concert pack, there was a Glider and a Furnishing. IIRC they hadn't even announced that the pack was going to be a thing yet, but I think we knew it was meant to be a pack via leaks. EDIT: Correction, it'd been announced in the patch notes text, I think many folks (at least those in my sphere) weren't reading them at the time.

The famous 'QiqiFallen, Herald of Unmet Expectations' I think the reason why google classroom was a target was because most of the genshin players at that time were teenagers and students and during the first anniversary, we were still in lockdown period and many countries used google classroom as a way to do online classes or meetings.

Imagine if half the global economy shut down and then investigations revealed that the cause was because some gacha players were angry

Not 10 fates, I'm genshin vet here, the Genshin official once anounced the reward will be 100.000 mora and some food/sth in game That pissed ppl off and they asked mihoyo (now hoyoverse) why... Well, mihoyo silently delete all of the complaint and question comments on all of their social media and not reply/trying to say anything! If you want to know more, there is tons of vids back then can give you a better view of the total CHAOS😂

The review bombing was the main reason why some if not most parts of Honkai community went from accepting and supporting towards Genshin community to straight up talking trash about them whenever they get a chance and I can't blame them because there's really no reason to attack the game like that other than it being made by the same company. It's like saying you should be put in jail as well if your sibling did a crime because you're from the same house/family

Also a fun fact: People also for some reason attacked Brawl Stars in google play about how Genshin Impact 1st anniversary was bad. Reason was that Brawl Star was also celebrating their special event and the genshin players attacked them cause their rewards were better. Collateral damage

It’s sadly funny to me how even after all this Genshin Anniversary is still a yearly train wreck with horrendous rewards. Still Mujin’s videos are always so hilarious.

7:33 that wasn't bots. The whole freaking community was angry because they censored people in the discord and subreddit who were justifiably angry about this. Plus, I was one of those review bombers. I read a lot of review bombs and they weren't bots. To this day, my Genshin review is stuck at 2 stars. Edit: omg, you should have seen the art competition entries that happened during the chaos. Some of the _greatest_ masterpieces you have ever seen till date.

Kinda sad they didn't mention the evolution of the Qiqi lying meme where the community kept photoshopping the small rewards we got from the anniversary on top of the QiqiLying emoji until it turned into Qiqi's "herald of unmet expectations" final form.

i remember this. but most of these peoples didnt hate mihoyo because of the leak about free ayaka. its just.... their expectation is high since that was the 1st Anniv. i also dissapointed at that time they didnt give us atleast something special(not in money's value). after they give us wind gliders, the storm end, we got our 1st anniv's souvenir😂

Another party to blame were content creators who hyped the anniversary with no proof saying stuff like "Save your primos for special banners and sales" and other dumbass things like that.

I vaguely remember this, since some of the Genshin players jumped ship to Cookie Run Kingdom when crap was hitting the fan. I am told that the toxicity in the fandom spiked around that time as well.

It actually doesn't stop at the 1600 primo and the wings, although the storms already calmed down a little and the community was like at the fifth stages of grief. If you search "Herald of Unmet Expectations" you will find the pinnacle of community's acceptance of the shitty 1st anniversary.

That can be said to be one of the many reasons why the genshin community is considered one of the most toxic communities in the world gaming community.

It's not exactly because someone spread gossip. Honkai Impact 3rd also had anniversary and stuff they give on anniversary is like 3 times more than genshin. They are having anniversary again on next week so you can check what do players get. Like currency worth 50 pulls, free skin, free S rank character and many more People expected to get rewards on par with honkai

No, Mihoyo at that time didn't even give 10 fates, they had a web event where 1000 people get 100 primogems , like that. Only after the attack on genshin, did they give the 10 intertwined fates and 1600 twinkles

Honestly if the community didnt retaliate from the 1st anniversary rewards all we would have gotten in the 2nd and 3rd anniversary rewards would have been the same log-in 10pull rewards. But now we get a 10pull from the log-in event, and another 10pull and some freebies from the mail Would have been great if they made it similar to Lantern Rite where we also get a free 4 star, but from any region this time and not just Liyue, but 🤷‍♀️

Fck I remember this drama.. The devs have to give the Glider and 1600 primo that is supposed to be lock on the paywal (I think it was 39.99$) because the review dipped at lowest I saw is 1.5 stars and the other apps were affected..

I remember I participated in that even when I was not playing at the time. I left by the time Xiao's release was out but by the 1st anniv many friends still in genshin told me this and the amount of rewards for it and I was flabbergasted. Like, Honkai had good rewards and even Fate was starting to be more generous. So you see GBF, Shadowverse, Fate, Honkai, Ark, even Cookie Run being super generous with the rewards and GI just giving 10 fates? Even without the Ayaka rumour, things were meant to hit the fan since many come from other gachas and know anniv is the time you give A LOT. That's the standard practice. So yeah! I did participate for a week downvoting everything on the app store. It was supremely funny.

What I find ridiculous is that even after all this time nobody understands that Hoyo got away with it. You can chastise and blame Genshin fans all you want(although you're insane if you think the CN fanbase isn't toxic) but I remember that time pretty well. People had Honkai to compare to when it came to anniversary rewards and Genshin's was garbage by comparison. We have Star Rail today to compare it to and guess what, it looks like even greater garbage by that comparison. I didn't even participate in the review bombing but the amount of people who belittle and insult the many who did seem to not understand the lost irony of it all since they're just as bad if not moreso that they continued to let Hoyo have their way with them. For all of the pushback that happened, none of it mattered because the community itself was in fact not united at all and still isn't when it comes to these controversies(the Dehya debacle comes to mind which still frustrates me). Even when they threw a small bone at us for the first anniversary, half the community was telling the other half to be good dogs and not ask for more. Then you look at HSR and realize that Hoyo genuinely did not care about what Genshin players had to say whether they hated their guts or were dickriding them the whole time. All of the improvements, rewards and general respect for the players' time went to HSR. It baffles me that there are people out there who play both and still hold the opinion that Genshin's community overreacted to the anniversary debacle and should've tried something else when we probably would've gotten nothing at all if things hadn't reached that point. Sad thing is, this internal struggle between supposed "good" and "bad" fans makes us all look like fools since we've basically gotten nothing better since then in regards to the anniversary. The concerts are nice and all but we all play the game. It's really not this absurd thing to ask for in regards to wanting in game rewards for giving up our time to play and support it. Ater all this time, we really haven't learned anything if we're still looking back on this event and fighting over it

Don't encourage peoples destroying google map, that just make some people work harder to remove irrerelant stuff. Qiqi fallen meme was funny, but the review bomb was a bit too much. It kinda soured the look of Genshin players for people outside the game

I started to play the game pretty close to the anniversary so I kinda was there, but not really. I was just happy to see free primogems and fates when logged in. I didn't know about this spectacle till way later cause I didn't follow to much of genshin news/drama/accounts at the time. I was just enjoying playing this game in my own space without people souring my enjoyment of playing this game

Since no one who remembers is saying anything, I'll just say it. Parts of this are false. The coutcomes (review bombing, spamming, etc) remain the same, but the whole free 5 star Ayaka thing predates the anniversary by a year. That was a launch era myth spread by beta testers. Any "rumors" that people claim were spread around are the same clickbait thumbnail videos that have literally always existed within this community. People were just mad in general that they weren't getting much of anything at all considering what this game is and how other games that utilize the same monetization method were more "generous". Of course, they did what angry people do and did dumb shit to try to get mihoyo's attention. I'm not gonna lie, the video gives off the energy of an outsider looking in rather than someone who was there.

4:57 heres the thing it wasnt “only 10 wishes” the 7day login thing was been given every milestone the genshin devs were happy about and the community was happy too witj free gift BUT they were technically “extras” , because you would also receive something more by mail in-game, like more primogens too! X total downloads, followers/watchers/etc on social plataforms, recommended to an award.. So at this point, people expect 10 wishes + X primogens + something else, right? free 5 star was a bit much and many in my circle knew they wouldnt do it, but i dont know how many did too. When they came, was 10 wishes from the 7day login …and a mail with 40 primogems nothing else only later the wings, lyre and extra 10 wishes came to wash down the fire

Let me correct something. For 1 a lot of people didn't believe in "free 5 star" (yeah maybe in 5 years like in hi3), heck i heard about choose a 5 star but i still didn't believe because "Stingy mihoyo". What really was the argument that a lot of people were bringing was "Other games give way more freebies for such occasions"(1st anniversary, golden week, Christmas and etc), and they would bring up games with similar amount of grind for the summoning currency, similar things that were summonable, similar amount required to summon and honestly made a lot of sense. The free 5 star was just the beginning, what really made people loose their sht was years and years of mihoyo stinginess.

I feel like it wouldn't have gotten so far in they haven't come up with those insulting competitions. I when at the time I saw that the only rewards were 10 fates. Yeah it was a bit disappointing, but I moved on. But then I felt so insulted with these competitions. Like, I'd rather they didn't bring it up at all. The last straw was when players try to protest about it but the developers went silent while deleting protests. That was the birth of psychopaths

I don't agree with the getting mad and review bombing HOWEVER from a protest perspective the review bombing other apps was actually kind of brilliant when you think about it even though it probably wasn't intended to work out this way. The original purpose was to drag Genshin's rating down in protest, but Google took measures to equalize it. When they review bombed the other apps and in turn the other communities review bombed Genshin, they actually got exactly what they wanted: Genshin reviews dropping. They essentially called in the troops without those people knowing they were actually fulfilling the original goal LMFAO
