We literally lost that series by an average of 6 points. If LeBron is 100% healthy, I’m sure he compensates for that deficit; probably resulting in at least a 5-point advantage in most of the games. As long as they keep themselves in shape physically for the playoffs, this team can win it all. I have zero doubt. So far, both AD & Bron have missed only 1 out of 23 games. Yeah, but you still see those old-heads complaining about teams "not playing" defense nowadays, because of no elbows to the ribs on drives. Great analysis by Ben, what impressed me the most was that Lebron knew that Hali won't throw that cross court pass to the corner cause Davis is trapping that direction, so he can gamble on a steal on an inside pass. Exceptional.

@@Midnight_Contender I ignore those guys. I've seen enough games from the 80s, and started watching NBA games regularly in the 90s. I love Kobe's 2nd championship run the most but today's NBA is fantastic. Offenses are so good (and empowered by the rules) that defense like this is actual genius, and not just hand-checking and hard fouls. Not to say that Rodman-era Bulls didn't play fantastic defense, but there were less scary offenses to stop then too.

Honestly, when I saw the Pacers offense video, I actually thought this to be the counter to the most logical defense to 'perfect' offense. Because it's fresh it's nice, but once we start seeing full court presses from EVERY team, it's going to get stale, and now that my theory has been proven effective, I think we will.
@ghostlightning
@ghostlightning 5 ай бұрын
@@localneo-graphic4647 then it becomes an arms race, one that I can get behind. Also, not every team can pull this off -- The Lakers would not have been able to pull this off 2 weeks ago. The defensively great 2020 Championship lakers would not have been able to pull this off. It requires tooling a roster for it (and not just for length, but actual defensive capability). Also, as good as Indiana's offense is, we probably won't see the Nuggets and the other teams just try to emulate it, as it might take away from what their main weapons are good at.

Hali is the real deal and I was big on him even after his rookie year when everyone thought he was gonna be great then he fell down a lil bit and everyone threw him out the window nobody was talking about Haliburton but he fell a lil bit having to play along side Deaaron Fox, not having the ball in his hands as much to create offense which is what hes good at, he got his own team now, he just gotta mature and learn the game more and he's gonna be deadly. Great breakdown of the Lakers (and Darvin Ham's) defensive strategy in full court pick up, with blitzing and trapping Haliburton. Haliburton himself said so in his press conference that the Lakers size was a big factor, with both Cam and Vando being big and fast enough to stay with him. Great examples with the communication and rotation on the back end. Excellent video.

And the Lakers only made 2 threes. Not only that, they also just attempted 13 three pointers against 10 out of 41 shots by the Pacers. So by this stat, you can actually tell how the Laker's defensive schemes against Tyrese worked. And also adding to that point is that the Lakers scored their majority of their points inside the paint, and inside the three point line. The Lakers were remarkable defensively and if the Lakers stayed healthy, they could potentially win it all this season.

And LeBron and the Lakers have not dismissed the money. In an interview Anthony Davis actually said what he'll do with his money and in LeBron championship speech he DEFINITELY spoke about the money a couple of times but at the end of the day. A lot of them is making or have made millions and 500k is just additional. But to your argument it does give them something to play for obviously....and your right if they gave money as an incentive for the AllStar they definitely would see better participants and better competition

@deadprecidents

They need to pick up a defensive big for Jokic. In the bubble they had 3 defensive bigs to just feed him a steady diet and soak up fouls. But really…if you just focus on making the SG cold (Murray) the team is done. That would be what I’d do, actually. It’s very clear Murray is massive for the team, if you make him go cold that’s where your easiest path to victory is. Jokic is too grounded with too good vision to truly shut down. Murray by being a SG is just inherently easier.
@nickholy7014
@nickholy7014 5 ай бұрын
@@deadprecidentsThe problem with the Lakers match up last playoffs with Denver was their problem earlier this regular season. The point of attack defender by having Dlo and Reeves at the start. Murray killed those two last playoffs. Since Cam, Vando, Prince and Max will be paired eairther one of them (Dlo and Reeves) winning ratio has been up lately. I'm more confident now if they face Denver again, locking down Murray is very essential because he's more clutch during tight games. We now have the length with athleticism on defense to challenge the Denver's length. Remember, Bron was gassed and hampered with injury last playoff also AD. If he is healthy he will do it again where Bron go for a scoring run alone to lead a 10-15 points. Then Reeves will fill in that scoring drought once Bron rest in the bench.

I have always said Lebron doesn't get enough credit for the fact that he can guard the 1 through 5. Even that possesson against McConnell most 4s wouldn't have been able to stay in front of him and then the same quarter have the strength to man Myles Turner. I also think you should have shown more credit to Vanderbilt, Reddish, and Prince. Those three are going to be a nightmare for any back court. Lakers just need to stay healthy and hit open shots and they can beat anyone this season.

It's not about gambling that the opponent has a bad shooting night. It's about playing the long game and taking away rhythm. That's what the Lakers did. If Haliburton is the engine that powers the Indy offense, the first thing the video showed is the Lakers putting a defender on Haliburton on every possession. Make him sweat, make him second-guess each pass, muddle his court vision, take away his usual avenues to pass. And it worked. Cam Reddish barely scored, but his impact was to body up Haliburton and either chase him or irritate him. Indy has other scorers, but the Lakers took the rhythm out, and the shooters were left to hunt for scoring spots themselves instead of Haliburton setting up the usual plays. They still scored some, but not that much. The Lakers lived with that compromise, and they won. What's going to haunt Rick Carlisle's next few days is how to remedy what the Lakers showed. I expect every other team now to start putting a full-court press body, likely a defensive wing, on Haliburton.
