Be sure to let your class know that the New Deal was a comprehensive, across-the-board failure that kept America in the depression for an additional 8 years, ok? It’s sole purpose was to reduce unemployment. You’re a teacher - you should know how to look up unemployment rates from 1933-1945, right?

Blk ppl waiting for the ppl they believe oppress them to supplement and notice them is the same as an abused person seeking closure from their abuser; neither have to give that closure which will leave their abused waiting forever for closure instead of giving it to themselves instead of the abused creating the closure needed themselves.

But you know, if people have to learn actual history their favorite narratives gets shaken and to strengthen their own cognitive dissonance the have to react strongly against historical facts! If they don't - they might end up becoming "evil libtards" who try to understand the full picture of how society works and how history has influenced it!

Just take the response you got from Yvonne Bauer elsewhere in the comment section - that's such a perfect example of what I'm talking about! Cognitive dissonance makes her react so strongly, that she calls the people who reacts towards racism and call it out for being the actual racists!

+Jdub97 Maybe if the whole truth was talked about in regards to most of this some people may not react to it. Are you aware that the KKK was set up by the democrats who also opposed the abolition of slavery, were against the civil rights movement of the 1950s and even voted against the civil rights act of 1964. I am not saying the Smithsonian has an agenda I am saying that if the whole truth was discussed at a national level then maybe there would not be so much trouble.
@liljdub08

Any American who has any understanding of the past 100 years of this country knows the Democrat and Republican parties practically switched ideologies decades ago. You can't judge what they do and don't talk about based off of what is essentially a trailer/teaser. I'm sure Smithsonian, a commonly used historical source, would not sugarcoat any details.
@bighands69
@bighands69 6 жыл бұрын
+Jdub97 "Any American ... of this country knows the Democrat and Republican parties practically switched ideologies decades ago" That is just pure nonsense at best. There was democrat senators in the 1960s who voted against the civil rights act and were still democratic senators up until 2010. Robert Byrd was the former head of the KKK and was a democrat right up to 2010.. David Duke the current head of the KKK was previously a democrat and even ran for office as a democrat. The switch you are referring never actually happened.

Things are getting better, but still have a long way to go. I have been fighting the racism in America since the mid-70s. Things have greatly improved since then, but it seems my generation needs to die off before equality has a real chance. Most people in my generation (I am 59) are great people, but enough are still caught in ignorance and bigotry that more progress will be too slow. In twenty years or so, most of us will be gone and hopefully things will be much better. There will always be bigotry, but I believe in the next few generations to step up and make us all proud. Happy New Years to all! Make 2018 a great year. 2017 has been a year of hatred and bigotry. I like to call 2017 the year of the orangutan.

Just enough to survive like health care, wic, ebt,according to the masters (DEMOCRATS). Learn some historical truth or continue voting in your masters. Poverty is absolutely a thing that is factored over generations. And the invisible defacto semi-apartheid system in the "north states" has been just as harmful towards people of color as the segregation system of the south was! But you know, cognitive dissonance is a strong force and people will fight viciously to protect it - so when presented with simple historical facts, they will feel a deep need to lash out to protect the narrative they feel confortable with! The most "soft" of them will go, "that was then, it doesn't matter now" - and the more radical their cognitive dissonance is, the more strongly they will react and it becomes more like, "it was and is their own fault", or "they are born lazy" etc.... The amount of backlash this short video segment has already recieved is a perfect example of how this factor plays in.....

The new deal caused the great depression. It was a means of economic control to try and right what people thought was a fault in the market which in turn created greater problems. After the 1929 crash a great recession happened and government taxed life out of the economy which stopped the recovery.
@bighands69

The New deal destroyed Growth in America. It actually taxed people at higher levels to enable the programs to be paid for. That money should have been reused to build America instead it was used for welfare. The great depression did not really end until the 1950s. The end of the great depression was the recession of 1949.
@ahabarhossain8747
@ahabarhossain8747 5 жыл бұрын
The New Deal did NOT cause the depression. Before FDr took office I believe, the unemployment was at 25%. You mention the stock market crash. The stock market crash was a result and ultimately led to the depression and was the start of it. It was because of conservative economic policies in the 1920's which helped cause such problems. The Revenue Act of 1932 came well after the 1929 stock market crash and well into the depression.
