Don't grab door handles. Don't compensate for bad position by driving relentlessly to the front. Do attack once and make it stick. Don't hire these guys to film your velodrome.

Such quickness. Very amazing. Amazing to see this so early. Can't wait to see Dan Martin "just chillin" again in the Ardennes next week.

Great to see it up so early again, your coverage makes it so much better! I have 2 things though: Terpstra hasn't been lurking but actually brought Boonen to the leading group right before attacking and Boom didn't just slide, he also destroyed his gearing. He almost caught up with the lead group when he punctured... But that's Roubaix!
@howtheracewaswon
@howtheracewaswon 10 жыл бұрын
You're absolutely right that Terpstra did his fair bit of work. "Lurking" definitely takes on a different meaning when you're in the final selection of a classic. He'd definitely done less work than Thomas or Boonen, and I'm guessing he'd done better work in the position battle than Wiggo-who still rode great. Hadn't heard about Boom. I think it'd have been a much different finale if Belkin had two cards to play. But you're right again-that *is* Roubaix.

Cosmo Catalano Hats off (quite literally) to Terpstra but I can't help but feel it was a bit of an anticlimax. It was such a high quality group and I was hoping for attacks from Vanmarcke, Cancellara or even Wiggo.

Absolutely love your race synopsis Cosmo. What a great mix of analysis, oddity observation, gentle cycnicism and humour. Your coverage is unmissable in my opinion and eminently more easy to listen to than the Flemish commentary I am always bending my ear round? Any chance you are going to cover the Brabantse Pijl this afternoon?

I'd love to, but it's really tricky to wedge a video in between workdays. I've done it for Grand Tours, but in that case, I can work on the stages from earlier in the week ahead of time, and there's less time spent overall on each day of racing. Plus, unlike the weekends, I don't get to watch mid-week races because I'm at work. I'm just about to see it for the first time now.

Please try to do one of these for each grand tour stage.

I always kick around the idea of doing shorter-style version for GT stages. There's no way I could do it with a day job. Maybe sometime down the line if things work out.

queen stage, significant mountain stage where something actually happens and TT is all that's usually needed, rest is "everybody watched everybody, while we watched them, glorious". these work really well for the classics though :D

sagans save basically going in to that pothole on one of the cobble sections and his slip in to the gutter and bunny hop out to avoid the people where great highlight shots i thought would make it, still fantastic as always though, especially about demare
@howtheracewaswon
@howtheracewaswon 10 жыл бұрын
Sagan did have some great moves-I think he does the pothole hop coming into Carrefour d'Labre, but I'd have to check. I kinda downplay the impact of that sector it had because all the dirt path/grass riding really toned it down compared to last year. Then again, 2013 was extra crazy, with those two OPQS/spectator crashes right in a row. I hate to say it, but it might be time for fencing along that sector.
@meesimma
@meesimma 10 жыл бұрын
I personally wouldn't mind more fenced cobbles just to keep the riders actually on the cobbles, it seems like in single file they can skip more than 1/4 of the 50k but also spectators are getting worse year on year. Swaying camera straps or bags or that absolute plonker who put a french flag over Boonens face, realised what he'd done, panic'd but then did it again to the guy at the back of the break =/

Did the door handle ever pull open and cause him to crash, or are you just thinking it was bad karmic form to grab it? Thanks as always, Cosmo. Seems like folks all over the planet had trouble with the live streaming. We all, of course, had trouble with seeing the second group finish.

01:02 oh Hayden, really? 01:35 guys sliding across cobbles into dirt at 45k? 02:02 a comma? 02:55 Sagz: I did all that and then I get this guy? Do they not respect me? Or did I fuck up and go to fucking early, fuck? 03:27 they speak french for $20 a chat in the bus station handicapped toilet in portsmouth - avail yourself - 03:44 well done, catching the innercrash and reshuffle - this is when sagan is punished, in reverse, for being tired when the leaders knew their best place to move - so, they respect you, but you fucked up peto - 04:47 let me google that for you 05:38 - so you bookend with a DE PR crush? photos in which monday newspapers, the day after a marathon, the day after the masters? the day sports markets worldwide stand agape, open to suggestion, willing to follow whichever path the weekend set - why not?
