All the other Jacksons just walked but Michael Jackson actually had his own little piece of him being a full on robot dancing across the stage and I don't like the fact they didn't give him a spotlight in the video. I'm old enough to remember when Michael first did the robot on TV......Decades later, The Moonwalk. In each dance, Michael added his own style and the rest is history.

Sam Solomon (Boogaloo Sam) created popping as we know it, and the electric boogaloos which took elements of the robot dance from a novelty act to its own dedicated style of dancing. I had try to do it when those handsome hard hitting Jacksons did it on every show and they also did it on thier Vegas show. it's very keen when you do it so flexible. I slightly do it once I pop my hop bone then I slow down and break slow down and break just for a sit down routine.

The Robot DANCE was around in 1969. It was first done by Charles "Robot" Washington. It came along BEFORE popping.

Popin pete also said in an interview, he & his brother used to go to libarly to watch Mercel Marceau videos for ideas, when they were starting out.

Ohhh they showed the other Soul Train Charles Washigton from "Capt.Crunch n Funky Bunch." The first Robot was Charles Washigton from Chicago he was the original robot for lockers 1970-71 he had a group in 1967 called " The Robot Bros." Not to be confused with 1977-78 Robot bros. on the Gong Show. But yeah he appeared with Lockers on Carol Burnette show Aug 1973!!! My dude "Mad Chadd" is the best now!!!!

This is incorrect. Could you edit the video to state that it was Michael Jackson who popularised and refined the dance? The dance that you show The Jackson 5 performing in the video came *AFTER* a solo routine that Michael did alone as the front-man of the group. Why did you edit that portion of the routine out to make it seem that the group danced collectively?? There are videos of Michael dancing alone all over KZfaq in 1974, it was the highlight of the performance during their tours and TV appearances, yet you decide to ignore it and therefore take credit away from Michael, which is becoming more the case as time passes after his death. *Don't* revise history.

Well, as someone who has been a part of street dancing and involved in the culture of it for around 20 years, I have to admit, I was enjoying this video for the most part until Michael Jackson, or specifically The Jackson 5 was given undeserved credit for making this style of dance mainstream. You guys were correct about it's origins in Mime. However, to leave Charles Washington out of this history lesson is borderline insulting. And to casually mention Shields and Yarnell, without giving them the true credit they deserve is more than borderline. In the world of non dancers, Michael Jackson is idolized for his dancing that he never gave credit to his teachers or inspirations for publicly. His level of technique, from the 70's and 80's until his last time performing, was 99% unoriginal, and specifically his use of robotic techniques, foundations, and movement was all incredibly watered down. People that aren't well trained or knowledgeable in the history of street dance styles are the ones who give him any credit or praise, while the majority of us who are trained and knowledgeable find him to be basic, unoriginal, and honestly just not great. With that being said, his fanbase was incredibly huge and so because if his theft and unoriginality in dance, street dancing styles like popping, locking, robotting, and bboying were brought to a more mainstream audience. But since this video is specific to Robotting... Charles Washington is an unmentioned pioneer. Robert Shields and Yarnell are primarily responsible for popularizing robotic movement in the homes of America because of his performances. Soul Train (including many of the dancers that were mentioned along with at least a dozen that were NOT mentioned but deserve as much if not more credit than most that were) is what brought the "Dancing Robot" into the homes of America. The Jackson 5, is not the reason for it's original.or current popularity in any way. And then of course... It's always nice when a channel with a following of this magnitude actually gives credit to the artists it used footage of, but then to essentially negate that credit and say that enjoying their entertainment is "a good way to Waste a few hours" essentially shows that you don't care about any of them and only mentioned anyone by name to avoid the possibility of a copyright infringement suit against you. I hope people watch this and regardless of the missed and incorrect information, decide to click the links and watch. And then click a related video link and keep watching. I'm happy to see anyone become interested in this dance style and culture! There are thousands of people worldwide that currently do these styles you describe and mention. A lot of them make a living from it, and deserve the support and respect of more than "wasted hours"...
