7:01 Just a small semantic correction. The copper is not molten but a high velocity jet of copper, in excess of 8,000 m/s. This is called the Munroe Effect, at no point does the copper liner become molten.
@echozero_

@@Trve_Kvlt yeah you are correct. Molten is not technically correct. Although it is heated and behaves like a fluid, it is not molten. Thanks for the comment!

Which is also not completely accurate. At such energy densities the 'classic' states of matter not really applicable. Copper does not become 'molten'. It became something different. Nothing mysterious going on, and the psychics of that is well understood. The condition there, for a split second, is so extreme it falls outside of our day-to-day experiences, and matter behave in very unintuitive way. So, many states of matter there is? School science teacher would answer - four. University physics professor would answer: "Uhm... couple of dozens, depends how you count."
@Trve_Kvlt
@Trve_Kvlt 24 күн бұрын
@@laierr Correct, it was an oversimplification of the Munroe Effect. There is no simple way of really explaining the effect. In my own research, instead of being called molten by researchers, I see a large swath of terminology used. Metallic jet, highly plastic, "fluid-like", or in a state of "hydrodynamic flow". I would say, to my own credit, calling it something other than molten is a more accurate explanation, because as said, under only a very brief moment is even a portion of the metallic liner changing states into a liquid. It can be perceived as such, but the extreme forces present do not change the material properties of the liner as if changing state, instead the forces present cause the metallic liner to undergo extreme pressure and velocities that makes the metal behave plastic or fluid-like. As you said, of course, even for a brief moment the material (usually copper in this case) can undergo a state change, usually some localized melting or even vaporization. This is usually localized to the tip of the jet (the apex of the conical liner, due to it being inverted), this is very short lived do to the rapid cooling of the jet as it moves away from the initial explosion. The main body of the jet formed remains in a solid state of matter throughout the explosion, but may undergo further state changes upon impact, due to the extreme amount of energy transferred.

Not just weapons, they also created the first covert listening devices. Among other things. A lot of designers got sent to Siberia. Image how much potential that was wasted... The most impressive thing about Soviet engineers was that they designed things that would work even after being built by Soviet manufacturing.

@@echozero_ Great KZfaq channel and videos, but I found the background music to be too loud though. I would highly suggest to not have any background music. I strongly believe background music is annoying, distracting and unnecessary (especially for educational videos with lots of talking). I also believe people want to hear you speak and not hear generic background music that doesn't add anything productive and that people have to to mentally filter out. I'm also a little neurodivergent and am vulnerable to audio over-stimulation. Plus it will be one less thing thing to do when making videos. Thank you for you consideration.

@@echozero_ Yeah got a couple. The VT Fuse or Proximity fuse (real engineering did a good video but you could definitely animate and show a few things more clearly with your 3d skills) History of Radar, from the first cavity magnetrons to modern phase array radars I guess sticking with WW2 you have to Norton Bomb sight, Enigma Machine, and some of silly but effective tests like the bat bomb, or German rocket glider. Gerald Bulls attempts to build a gun that could shoot to space, Project Harp, several interesting designs that got halfway made before his death (murder). Bunch of interesting stuff with the Apollo Program, Gyroscopes, First computers with hand woven memory, lunar lander, foldable buggy. So many things could be explained better with this level of 3D editing and polish. Keep it up, I will watch whatever you decide to make in the future.

Fun fact: None of the threads in this video are actually threads. They don't have any rise. Also, for some reason, 5:01 even implies a left-hand thread, something one would only go to the lengths of purchasing and obtaining the necessary cutters for and/or setting the turning machinery for if some significant rotation was to be expected during operation that could loosen the connection before the finished piece's purpose was fulfilled. But the RPG-7 projectiles aren't even spin-stabilized in the first place.
