I agree IT developments have moved very fast especially since the last three decades. In biotech it is not the case, we are far from mastering human hibernation. The biological process is studied in small animals such as squirrels that naturally hibernate, to understand which genes are activated or expressed in their body during winter. In "Passengers" it is said that hibernation is a propretary technology and articles that talk about the subject on a theoretical level are shown on a screen to Aurora. Let's say it is a Homestead lie to protect their business. There are already many articles on hibernation and they are not theoretical. This is how science-fiction joins reality in biotech, i.e. on the patentability level. How can a company appropriate knowledge while researchers and engineers in academic laboratories have spent their lives to understand a biological process and published their discoveries in journals ?
