As a French person, I confirm eating half a baguette with each meal. I bought two baguettes for two days, one with wholemeal flour and the other a country baguette, and I alternated at each meal. Personally, eating bread is as rewarding as eating a good pastry. It’s a daily pleasure. And, except when I eat Asian food, if I have to eat without bread at a meal, I feel like I haven’t eaten. Something is missing! Ha, I forgot. I almost never eat “pain de mie” (this is how we commonly call long-life sliced bread sold in plastic bags here-sandwich bread in the U.S.). Well, yes, I am a real Frenchman.

Very interesting I know in the UK some supermarkets have moved away from baking bread in-store as much as they used to but others use it as selling point that it produced on site that day. From a marketing point of view they used to extract air from the bakery, and therefore smell and pump it out through the main door blowers!

First of all: I counted two yawns 😝 ... I think where I live there are at least three or four "bakeries" within a 5 to 10 minute walk. Mind you they do not bake their bread at these locations. Most of them are owned by firms that have a number of selling points ( bakeries) and a regional location where bread is made fresh every day and from there transported to the selling points. many people have issues with the way the EU functions and all their laws and rules being enforced on the population. But, in my opinion, most of the rules and regulations the EU made are actually very good and are beneficial to the greater public. One way or another I eat bread every day. I love a good bread. The last two decades or so our local bread producers have come up with lots of great recipes (or borrowed them from other countries) producing very tasty bread. Mind you, those are not cheap, Cheap bread is also available in local supermarkets which sell mass produced lower quality bread. But, again, the EU makes sure every bread produced needs to meet certain standards which is a good thing.

Hello from Switzerland, definitely, good, real bread can never come from a plastic bag (especially fresh, as it would get moldy). Unfortunately, there are fewer and fewer bakeries in our country, but there are many grocery stores that bake bread (be it pre-made bread or pre-made bread dough). These taste almost like they come from a bakery, but there are minimal differences. My favorite grocery store has its own bakery, but months ago they changed the recipe for my favorite bread. I can't put my finger on what exactly, but it doesn't taste like it should anymore, so I buy bread somewhere else. I think anyone who has ever walked into a bakery early in the morning and just smelled the smell of fresh bread knows that these packaged things (some call it bread) don't taste anything like what we call bread in Europe. I think anyone who has ever walked into a bakery early in the morning and just smelled the smell of fresh bread knows that these packaged things (some call it bread) don't taste anything like what we call bread in Europe. And what beats the experience of enjoying good bread with butter for breakfast (both 100% natural).

08:30 Argentinian here, I did the same and I have 4 bakeries at 5 minutes walking, also 3 more places that aren't bakeries but buy and sell from bakeries, and finally about 6 other places that sell industrial sliced non-bread. It makes sense, I mean the three largest inmigration groups we had were Italians, Spanish and French.
