Jellied foods are a thing in germany aswell, and it actualy doesn't tast bad. The jelly doesn't realy have a destingt tast, and in the foods you get in germany, you usualy have cubes of meat, wich is refered to as Sülze. Thou sometimes a Sülze will also contain chunks of small, inserted vegetables.

Jellied eels is WONDERFUL! Put a good sprinkle of black pepper and a bit of vinegar over. A KINGS food!

I'm a London gal, born and raised, my mum is from the East end, which is where jellied eels are still popular and there is no way I'm even going to taste them. Ever. We get them in the canal here, one of my neighbours was fishing from inside his boat and caught an eel, his mum was screaming as it was dripping eel slime all over the interior of her boat, and he was screaming like a girl and wouldn't touch it. I don't blame either of them.
