You are classifying "any and all" as public high schools, which have a lower standard of education and aren't so good about giving the full story. We committed very few war crimes during WW2 in comparison to the USSR or the British Empire, and the majority of them were against German Pilots or Soldiers, people who deserved what they received. Aloha Look, I get what you’re saying, but at this point, there’s generations of non Hawaiians that call Hawaii home. I’m a haole, but I was born and raised in Hawaii, as was my mom, grandparents and great grandparents. My family has been here since WW1, and as much as the history of Hawaii and the subjugation of its people breaks my heart, especially knowing that my ancestors likely participated in it in some way or another, it’s still my home and always will be. All I can do is respect the land and culture and try my best to right some of the wrongs of the past.

Kamakahelei was said to have had the ability to pray people to death which kept fear in her opposers. Kaumuali'i was feareful of kamehaemha because of how fast he was able to move through the islands and I should note, kaumuali'i was only a young man, and the kingdom of kaua'i and ni'ihau had not seen war since the days of king manokalanipo (that's almost 400 years at the time) unlike the other islands which had wars nearly every year or generation. with kamehameha, his wars were most known but they were the last. with him, peace finally reigned over all the islands. as bloody as his command is known for, what he is most known for is the peace he gave to the islands.

I got in contact with historian Brook K Parker as Well as the last living feathwork master in existence named Rick makana'aloha san nicolas. he told me that he was taught that in the older days of the islands, probably during or a few generations after that of Mauiloa (first king of maui) the Kingdom of Mauinui which included today's Maui county had occupation of kaua'i and ni'ihau. also, to distact certain chiefs depending on islands, the maui and kaua'i chiefs wore a different type of Mahi'ole, or feather helmet. Maui Mahi'ole would be huge a huge crest with zig zag patterns. if you look up "king kekaulike portrait" on google, images of old hawai'i was a painting done by brook K parker which shows the king wearing his mahi'ole. he was the third to last king of maui, being succeeded by his son, Ailu'au, who was then succeeded by kahekili after loosing hana to the big island chiefs, giving ailu'au the title of kamehaemha-Ailu'au as he was lonely when banished to hana. I descend from Ailu'au. Kahekili is said to be the true father of Kamehameha by the way, which would mean he and kaumuali'i had the strongest lineages in the islands.

Kaho'olawe was technically made uninhabitable or at least barren because of goats. But yes, those bombs are awful. Unexploded ordnance is not fun. Later, Kaumualii (who was the former mo'i) tried to form an alliance with _Russia_ to liberate his kingdom.
