The legacy of this war That is something that our generation will appreciate more nowadays This war affected families that lived during that time Singapore has not been the same since then But I love that survivors of that war was still around even in the years to come when this war is not remembered well We all need to play our part on remembering the war that affected families that are Grandfathers, fathers or Sons that took part of and hoping the future generations don't forget what the past has done to our present and hope that another world war never happens again.

My interest has been mostly focused on the capture of British service men, one of whom was my dear father. He survived 3.5 years in atrocious conditions of starvation, deprivation and cruelty and it is important to me to learn of the impact 80 years ago on the civilian population - We Will Remember Them!

Probably the last few who sang Kimigayo as their national anthem for 2 years. Didn't occur to me how the survivors felt there and then, when I was browsing the exhibits couple of months back,. Watching this made me realize how painful it was for survivors like Mdm Sim and Mr Peter Loh to experience the loss of their loved ones right before their eyes and to recall it after so many years. My grandfather was very young when the war broke out, but having grown up in a different era was impossible for me to comprehend the hardship our forefathers went through in those tumultuous years

The song that grandfather sang called the "Gunkan March" or "Gunkan Koushinkyoku". This song is the official march of the Imperial Japanese Navy and it is still using by the JMSDF (Japan Martime-Self Defence Force).

This is not correct, there are already so many malingerers/chao keng in NS, what makes you think they will defend us in times of war? They should convert it to professional army so that soldiers are paid fairly, as it is, conscription is forced cheap labour.

There were Japanese collaborators amongst the Singaporeans. Lee Kuan Yew and SR Nathan did work for the Japanese invaders. How they slept at night is anyone’s guess. Seeing how much death and suffering the people had to endure.

My great grandfather was a Hakka Chinese who left his village in Guangdong to live in Singapore in 1941. My grandmother never heard from him again, no money ever got sent back from overseas. The massacre was systematic, it was a genocide of Chinese men.

So sad for this woman. I come back to these old videos to learn more. These men and women of my parents/grandparents era. How they suffered so much. Yet still sacrificed so much to work, earn snd raise their own families in singapore! So much pride. Nowadays the snowflake generation dont know what real suffering is.

I feel so sorry for Singaporeans who lost their lives during Japanese occupation. Unfortunately, abusing pow and civilian are barely taught to Japanese students. I learnt those tragedies through English articles not something written in Japanese as if they are trying to cover up dark side of history.

Chinese people tend to be against allowing people to have guns such as what is allowed in the US. But the Nanjing massacre and Sook Ching are prime examples of why it is important for men and women to have military weapons.
