If you are a fan of American film franchises such as TED and the LooneyTunes then you probably know these films have their fair share of visual references in them.
And because of a lack of knowledge on the part of the producers a massive copyright infringement that could have doomed the Daleks from returning in doctor who happened in these franchises.
But what are the stories behind these Dalek cameos and are they even in reference to doctor who?

It's kind of sad that the man who designed the iconic Dalek prop didn't get ownership of it because the guy who wrote the script they appeared in but had no idea what they would look like, claimed it and held it as his main meal ticket for decades.

If you take a look at the outline Nation gave to the designer, it's quite specific. I think the story of Nation feeding off a BBC staff designer is a little overblown.

I think it may have also led to all of the Classic Who Dalek stories being removed from airing here in the US. It was kind of a blow for public television.

Like I've said on Twitter the gold Dalek was repainted Bronze to represent the current series! The Nation Estate have always been a bit Dickish even Terry himself was a bit on the edge!

If you mean for TED 2 then perhaps, but Looney Tunes Back In Action came out 2 years before any official announcement of a new doctor who.

Those Daleks look a bit longer in the mid parts than usual. Midriff? Not sure what you call that bit! ☺️

Traditionally it's been: head, neck (the mesh bit), shoulders (slats, band and arms), skirt, bumper. Although when modern Daleks started rotating their shoulders to shoot backwards, that part was referred to as "The mid-section".

Ah yes, Looney Tunes: Back in Action, the first time I ever saw a Dalek. Something about the domes caught my interest, - a year or 2 later, I saw a doctor who advertisement in magazine, & whatta ya know: right there in the pages, a bronze Time War Dalek. There on, the floodgates opened.

no, because thats just a rumor, with no actual proof such an agreement exists, when its much more simply, they use the daleks so often because they are popular

Actually the dr.who films are cannon in the show the films them selfs are films within the shows universe.

Mammoth Chats 394 subscribers I absolutely LOVE the Movie Daleks!!!! It's a shame that most movies nowadays refuse to use Daleks for fear of Terry Nation coming after them (HEH! I like to see them TRY! Since they have no police jurisdiction right here in North America. Personally I think Daleks should be allowed in movies an cartoons, as long as it's done right!)

At 2:50 ish you say the looney tunes light is red but then show a clip from that movie where Donald is running past the bottom of the screen and the light is orange/golden.

@@MammothChats No worries, not a big thing.. Probably just a freudian slip. When there's multiple designs that are remarkably similar and maybe only change one thing it can get a little muddled in remembering what is what. Just wanted to point it out, some people will add in an annotation or something for errors. Not saying you have to but if you wanted to, and didn't notice the mixup.

These aren't accurate replicas really - the mid section is too tall, the neck rings are wrong and film Daleks used tapered beakers rather than the jars on these two.
