Every twin guitar part in Thin Lizzy's discography can bring you to tears. Sad people overlook them nowadays, when in reality there would be no Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth and pretty much every dual guitar band hadn't it been for Thin Lizzy

Scott Gorham doesn't get enough respect. He killed it on Bad Reputation when Robbo was missing for the majority of it. But yes, Robbo is definitely underrated. He clearly influenced plenty of later artists. Amazing player.

I saw Thin Lizzy in Brisbane in the late 70s They blacked out the stage, filled it with smoke and several coloured pinspots focused on the mirror pickguard on Phil Lynotts bass, bouncing back in an incredible aura. Best live gig I've ever been too!

Despite Phil Lynott & Midge Ure being friends, Lizzy were not invited to play Live Aid. Ure said in a concert I was at that, it simply slipped his mind to invite them. Phil Lynott was the best showman I ever saw. The guitar work is timeless.

*The “Thin Lizzy” aspect of harmony guitars is so beautiful man* *The Night and the Silent Water from Opeth is such a dark melodic masterpiece* *If it wasn’t for Thin Lizzy, Wishbone Ash, we wudnt have Iron Maiden, Opeth and a bunch of Swedish death metal bands, or even Queen and Brian May and his style of playing a counter melody to his own playing*

A great video Ross. You did a sound job of that. I wish we had this sort of tuition when I was playing Lizzy stuff in the early 80's. It was hard getting hold of the lead guitar notes. We had all the great bands but not the tabs. Now we have all of the tabs but not the bands 😀

Yep those were the days, going to Thin Lizzy at the cork city hall. Towards the end, it was sad I remember going to cork city hall and it was almost empty for them (only a few hundred people). They still put on a great show, fortunately or unfortunately I bumped in Phil afterwards being carried to his transport, he was completely zonked out. Typical Phil still managed to say "Hello lads, all the best in the future" in his dub accent,t he was such a nice man. I knew it was drugs at the time but never thought it was heroin, it was probably the beginning of the end for the band. We all dream of being in bands when we were teens and all the lifestyle etc, but it looks like it is not all it is cracked up to be, especially when through bad luck you dont really get to the level you deserve. I will always have fond memories of their shows when they were at their peak, they deserved so much more recognition.

My wife and I were blessed to have seen Thin Lizzy twice. Harmonic lead guitar playing was a really innovative breakthrough. The precision was astonishing. All beginner guitarists... learn scales, modes and then intervals. Big Six String Chords are not the best place to start. I wish to goodness I had known that fifty years ago! When you get into a band, split the notes of the chord between the instruments. Don’t have everybody hammering all the notes of every chord at the same time.

I read all the books on the market about Phil and Lizzy a few years back and, from memory, The Boys are Back in Town almost didn't make it onto the album! They were looking down the list of tracks they'd recorded, deciding on the final selection, when someone walked in, pointed to that title and asked: 'What's this one?' So they played it, he loved it and that swung it. Sometimes we can be so close to what we've just created, that we don't know how to assess it.

I ve played this song in a three piece band the main riff harmonies in between the verses i played two strings in 5ths and 3rds i believe the end harmonies i would play like that two strings together after the first go around i would go up the neck doing each harmony part as a single line..its a little tricky to do three piece and make it work.

Bands playing live with prerecorded tracks was actually quite common in the 70s. The best examples I can think of are the Who (Won't Get Fooled Again and many others) and Queen (middle part of Bohemian Rhapsody). I used to hear it all the time from older musicians that playing with prerecorded tracks was "cheating".
