Long time no see guys! Hope all of you are doing well! I’m back with an airport story video, just decided to add this type of aviation story videos as a new element to the channel. I’ll be updating both kinds of videos in the future, both plane drawings and aviation stories! Thank you guys so much! Enjoy the story!

I think you meant Runway 3 not 39 lol. Interesting facts tho. Haven't even notice that airport south of DFW

Yes! And hardly anybody could notice it without any hints. I discovered this airport by accident when I was browsing Google Earth, so I thought it would be interesting to tell everybody the story of this little-known airport. Thank you so much for the visit!

An interesting anecdote: When one is scheduled for training at the American Airlines Academy in Ft. Worth, TX. his facility locator is designated as 'GSW.' And yes, the BAC-111 has a body that only a seal could love. But then, the English are noted for designing and constructing some quite ugly air machines over the past 100 years - except for the Spitfire, of course...

I drove by that abandoned runway end for years before realizing what it was. The old 17/35 was converted to Amon Carter Boulevard (until recently the home of American Airlines HQ).

Love Fields survival is a total no brainer. Also Greater Southwest aka Amon Carter Field could not be expanded to the size of the future DFW.

Remember it well. We used to pick up my Grandmother there on here way back from Taiwan. The terminals lacked AC, which made it hot as hell during the summer, and the Fold-out windows only allowed a light breeze to flow through. Still a spectacular landmark for the time.

Great photo at 10:33. That’s a B17, a B24 and I think a B25 flying by. I was there that day. It was 1970 or 1971 after the movie Tora Tora Tora came out. It was an air show by the Confederate Air Force (later changed name to Commemorative Air Force). I remember walking through part of the terminal to get out to watch the show. I asked my Dad why the airport was empty…

BTW, it's not the "back One-Eleven" as you pronounced it, but the "B.A.C. One-Eleven "(Initials for British Aircraft Corporation). It was a few months ahead of the DC-9. It was definitely a noisy little bird.

“the end of the Great Depression in 1933”!? The Great Depression did not end until many years after that, around 1939. Some argue it lasted longer than that…
@S1mp1l0t

It's believed the depression didn't truly end until the US was thrown into WWII with the bombing of Pearl Harbor in 1941. 1933 is when the depression reached its lowest point.

Wow I watched the video to the end. Honestly kind of sad for the airport. I don't know how I'd feel if I was the one who managed it throughout it's years and then had to watch it go like that.

William J. Fuller was Fort Worth's aviation director. He started soon after WWI and managed Fort Worth Meacham Airport from its opening in 1912. When Greater Southwest opened he was its manager until his retirement when the airport closed and he soon after became mayor of Euless, Texas, which was adjacent to Amon Carter Field. Fuller is another un-sung hero of north Texas aviation.

If you lived anywhere near GSW then you remember the "hole in the wall" where highway 183 ran under an active runway. They also had a cargo plane crash there in the early 70's. I saw them truck the fuselage section out quite some time later. Weeks at least. And a majestic B-36 sat on the property for many years starting in 1958.

@Kent Carter thanks for the response. I'm glad to hear that B36 at least made it to a museum. Also, I did read about that cargo plane crash. It was due to wake turbulence. A DC9 was following a DC10, and it encountered wake turbulence and lost control and crashed.
