Architect Peter Woolard, Director of Studio 101 Architects, found and renovated Kirriemuir House, a 1962 mid-century gem in Geelong, inspired by Sydney's Lend Lease Pan Pacific house. Despite its age, Peter appreciated the mid-century sensibilities and embarked on a humble renovation. Peter aimed to create a family home rather than a historical museum piece, emphasising mid-century design principles that better suited the Australian climate and lifestyle like simplicity, functionality, material honesty, and forward-thinking sustainability, all of which remain timeless.

This kind of renovation ensures that the home not only meets basic needs but also elevates the overall experience of daily living. Great job! 👏🏼👏🏼

thank you ! You are so right Stage one of the renovation was the repair the house and meet our initial basic needs process. ...Stage 2 started to elevate the living experience and transform it into our family home.

That external slate wall is beautiful! With the colours of those stones I imagine the front door would also look good in pink or even purple! It's lovely that the owners could do minimal work but still feel happy with how they live in this home.

Retro but modern and all a family needs. A wonderful family home. This update and restoration and the considered modernising of this beautiful property is inspiring. One very lucky family. What a great way to live. Thank you for sharing.

I absolutely love mid century architecture. The elements that bring texture and color, the wide spaces, the lots of windows. I took notice on this style when I had to remodel my house. It was buitl by my grandparents in 1990. The architect was my aunt. When I remodeled it and had to repaint, was that I notice my house was made in a mid-century style and i started paying attention to this style, which is now my favorite

I like this very down to earth architect who is not mindlessly taking over and gentrifying the neighborhood.

I envy you this find. I’ve always loved mid-century architecture. With updating of the kind you have done, I can’t think of a design I would be more comfortable living with.

Beautilful. No vast open floor and the kitchen keeps its proper place and proportion.

We agree. The kitchen worked really nicely as it was - semi concealed and open at the breakfast bar to connect with the dining space.

Is there anywhere where the pink Terrazzo bathroom is featured from the advertisement in this video?

If I understand your question correctly, the pink bathroom is my Aunty’s bathroom, and not in this mid-century home of Peter’s.

The space between 10,11, and 12 is a void with a window. Perhaps this is a space for space sake. It has no function or form. The Japanese colour scheme with black and white, olive green, mustard yellow and iron rust is appropriate.
