As a yo-yo performer, I can tell you that him “creating a special routine set to music for them and they put some dumb narration over it…” and that somehow being a “slap in the face,” is not true at all. It’s just plain fun when people appreciate what you do, and if you listened to Gentry, he said the feeling of people appreciating your creation…”never gets old.” Entertainment like yo-yoing is always better when viewed live, and I’m sure the crew who filmed this were blown away by what they got to shoot. If you really want to see him doing his thing, all of the winning performances are on KZfaq, so you’re not missing anything because they added narration, which was excellent and gave tons of insight for non-yo-yo people and pros alike. Haters gonna hate 😅

Reminds me of a school friend called David Rose who at 16 years old decided that he wanted to get into the Guinness Book of Records and became the world yo-yo endurance record holder in 1972. I remember him performing some tricks for me during his marathon event.

Jacob Hobbs can you prove that? In cigarettes over 1000 chemicals can be found, which half of them cause cancer. In vaping, it’s taking an fda regulated flavoring, pv, vg and maybe some other harmless additives, heating it, which turns it into a vapor.

The great thing about modern yoyos is it's a really cheap hobby to get into (unless you're like me and end up collecting them). Whilst you can buy expensive yoyos like a bi-metal or something, a $20-30 yoyo can do pretty much any trick you want to do. Gentry Stein won the US Nationals in 2015 using a Yoyofactory Replay Pro, which is a $16 plastic yoyo. Also whilst you might find it difficult at first to come to grips with the workings of it all, once you get the hang of it you can start building up your trick list pretty quickly.

@@evilhutdug4665 Well of course, but again none of that is at all expensive. You use such miniscule amounts of lube that one little vial can last ages. Besides, I don't even relube my bearings. Just cleaning them is adequate for me, and in fact I rarely do that either. Also anything more than even the lightest ever drop of thin lube will make a bearing turn responsive. Lube is more of a thing for 2a looping yoyos honestly. Also you can get a box of string for like $10 that will last ages. Also some strings just last ages anyway. I use Yoyostringlab Venom, and whilst it looks like it frays quickly, if you keep using it it smoothes back out. I've got yoyos that I've had the same Venom string on for like 2 years and it's still whippable and smooth.

Uhhh memories!! In 1991 i got one of the first butterflie yoyos where the sides of the yoyo turn outsite instead of a normal small slit!! And it opend a whole new world to me!!!!

one of the Terraria developer is in the yoyo community, and there have been real versions of the terraria yoyos made by the company One Drop.

I remember as a kid in the 90s everyone had a yoyo. I could walk the dog and rock the cradle and that was about it. This man is simply amazing! Its awesome to watch him. What a wonderful talent to have. As a grown man now in my late 30s, I enjoy building and flying model toy airplanes. So I appreciate his dedication and skill to his craft.

I got pretty big into yo yos when I was a kid. Best one I had was this brainz yo yo or something. It was a pretty nice one. Gonna actually look them up now to see exactly what it was.

Yoyoing is one of the coolest hobbies you can pick up, simply because there is no skill ceiling. Theres always something new to learn. Ive been throwing for near 6 years and can only dream of doing half the stuff he can. And the best part is it's so easy to start, pick up a $10 yoyo somewhere, watch some youtube videos on beginner tricks, and away you go. Truely aweome stuff.

I met this man 5 years ago, this guy is pretty tall, he's kind and he's an amazing and amusing at the same time. Gentry and I got along so well, I used to this hobby for a lifetime, then I quit. Always well to see this guy prosper in an activity that he enjoys

ha Ha hahahahHHAHAHhhHaba I really hope your under 15. You should really do a little reading about the history of the hobby you enjoy. Gentry has, and is, doing great things for yoyo, and getting lots of exposure for the community. But to say he's done more than ANYONE else is just asinine

Didn't Hiroyuki Suzuki popularise horizontal moves? In addition to winning multiple world championships. I'd argue he's made more of an impact than gentry

One of my favorite art forms!!! Such a healthy community surrounds these competitions! Can you imagine the neurons that are firing while these routines are performed? These performances are a whole new type of neuromuscular expression! It’s an awesome thing! 😃

As a Yoyo player I really think this video is so nice! It makes us get some credit for the sport... it's only considered for kids nowdays but there's so much more to it!

Saw Gentry performing in a shopping centre a while ago, and then doing a meet-and-greet and teaching kids a bit of yoyoing. Not often you can watch the best in the world at something, then have them help you get started. Seemed like a great guy, and my daughter was super excited to have The Best In The World teach her some yoyoing!

Been years since i used my yoyos but it's fun to see i can still follow most of what he's doing.. Obviously i cant replicate a lot of it, but some things really have a big WOW factor when you're new, but once you get into it for a few months, you can see the building blocks for what they are. I remember basic crap like even a trapeze being hit or miss .. actually trying to land the thing on the string. But after some time, you stop trying and it just happens because you know how to move your fingers. The size of those binds make me scared though ... He throws in a lot of slack to get it back up sometimes... Dont try that with an older string or you might find the yoyo ramming itself in your face
