well my opinion should be taken as a grain of table salt. Looking at Arteta's transfers there are some confusing points to consider. This might be my very own senses, but Arteta wants to both groove his players and also begin the cycles of trial/error to test his player's capabilities, something Pep has always been doing throughout his career. 1. If inspecting carefully, we can see significant improvements in their squad depth, both in quality and quantity. They lack decent subs for Saliba and Gabriel, Arteta gets Kwior and Timber, making their squad flexibility in the defense even more flexible. When there are at least one good solid player for rotation (Tomiyasou not included), Arteta can feel a little more relaxed in case of injury. But Rice and Timber are two interesting examples, leading to the 2nd point 2. I don't think Rice came as a player who can replace Partey's unique role, but more like an upgrade for Xhaka. He has youth, he has high working capacity, he has much better technique with the ball than Xhaka, he has quite impressive impact compared to a conventional box-to-box midfielder, Xhaka cannot cross or switch effectively, that's Rice's weekly thing at West Ham. Indeed an upgrade. 3. However, Timber's case is very strange and also very fascinating. He has decent experience playing controlling inverted fullback like Zinchenko, he too can an excels at the 3rd CB from fullback as Ake. But he has some problems that make him unworthy of replacing Ben White's RB position. First, Timber and Ake has one similar problem, in which they are too reserved in situations when they have to run up high to drag/pin markers, create space and time in order to enhance their wingers' dribbling. Saka is quite a elite winger, but that doesn't mean you don't provide him some support to make his dribbles even more dangerous. White is very active in running up and down to pin Saka's opponents, but at Ajax Timber is quite conservative and prefer staying at the back 3. This might sound crazy, but Arteta might be training him and gradually tweak his team's dynamics and introduce him as Arsenal's new pivot, not a temporal pivot like Arsenal, but a permanent one. This can sound slightly more persuasive when Partey and Jorginho are aging and declining in their fitness status, and getting a solid pivot in this time is impossible. If true, he's not going to rush through the stages like Hansi Flick moved Kimmich into the midfield with literally no transition phase or sufficient training to help the German fix his problems, which hampers him and Bayern's system at various times, Arteta with provide training and carefully tweak the team dynamics and gradually introduce him, then gradually increase the workload till the right amount. With Timber's already good defensive skills and spacial awareness from his time as the hybrid fullback and also a second pivot, this should make his progression into the midfield easier. In my view, that is the best option to both merge Timber's great passing and defense into Arsenal's system and maintain Ben White's superior defensive heartiness and considerably good offensive support outwide. Also Arteta doesn't have to worry so much about finding a new holding pivot when Partey and Jorginho leaves or suffers from age and injuries.

I think Arsenal are a good team. A lot of depth if Arsenal even get Raya at Keeper and ship out Turner. I think though, even though Arsenal usually get goals by committee I still have question marks if one of there guys in the front 3 can have a 35 goal contribution in all games. Is it a Bukayo Saka, is it a Gabriel Jesus, is it a Gabriel Martinelli. I don't think none of those guys can. Don't think they have ever gotten a 35 goal contribution for the season from one of them. Even Gabriel Jesus at City. Also, this is the first time they are playing competitively in the league and same time in the Champions League. So they are essentially new to the tournament aside from former City or Ajax players they have gotten recently and in the past. I think Arsenal will compete in all competition but still have low expectations on them. Some of these bigger clubs have guys they rely throughout the season in all comps. Not sure if Arsenal have that guy but their season will go as far as Saka, Jesus, and Martinelli take them. One of those guys have to have a world super star breakout season where they get 35+ goal contribution.

Those overloads mention first at 3:55 in this video didn’t really seem to work when watching it. A few times in attacking phase I wondered what ESR’s job was because he wasn’t taking up the positions Odegaard would. Quite clear to see aswell that Vieira isn’t a winger (not his fault) so I think our lopsided performance was definitely a result of trying different variations

I think the double pivot of arsenal looked very offensively but they need to work on defensive aspect of their game and another thing i managed to analyze was the arsenal attacking force that had Eddie nketiah did press high like the way jesus does ...and even his involvement when the team has possession was not good. ..look at the Barcelona game where jesus played with the ball jesus was super great and with out the ball still he was good ...the front line also must improve in that regard ...

Honestly, all these formations and tactics mean very little when teams vie for a win. I know all this stuff sounds incredibly interesting, but it means nothing if players don't perform and aren't switched on. What counts is as follows: - 1. The aggression and commitment of the players into every area of the game 2. The speed, accuracy and directness of the passing 3. The physical strength of the players on the ball and the ability to keep hold of it 4. The ability to outpace and constantly get in behind your opponents 5. The ability to finish off your presented chances in a game with accuracy (65%+) 6. The ability not to concede at the other end. You can play virtually any formation against your opponent and not win if any of the above are missing from the game. Similarly, you have an increased chance of winning no matter what formation is played, provided your team has the edge on most if not all of the above over your opponent, irrespective of whether or not the opposing manager is better tactically, or even has the better players down on paper.

I’m worried that we are too top heavy. My first instinct was when we signed Havertz. I feel we’ve already suffered the effects of a top heavy midfield when we played Fabio Vieria & ESR in that left half space vs Bournemouth at home. Even Manchester City play 2 dedicated CMs in Rodri/Gundogan or Kovacic now. It’s a huge and unnecessary risk imo to try a striker as a CM in a season we’ll need 95+ points from 114 to win the league

Just found this channel. Looks to be a bit of a goldmine. I have a question, why do defenders sometimes follow their striker who goes deep to look for the ball? It seems like such an easy way to open up space in behind for a quick winger to cut in and dart into. For me I wouldn’t want anyone in the back row leaving that line
@FootballMadeSimple
@FootballMadeSimple 10 ай бұрын
Thanks man! Suppose you naturally have a 3v3 in the midfield and the forward drops in to make it a 4v3. If the defender does not follow the 4th midfielder/forward can receive in space unchallenged, turn and dribble at the defence. Following deep means there is a higher chance of applying pressure before they can turn and maybe even force them into an error/conservative pass

If you allow that, you will allow the opponant to consistently have a free man in the middle of the field. Which means they will nearly always break your press. If a team of a high level can consistently break your press, it's only a matter of time before they create a goal (even if you keep your defence line together they will find a way most of the time) or you stop pressing all together and struggle to have the ball.

Reason why city beat this arsenal is because they are aggressive 😪😪, and they can go man to man cause none of arsenal forward can overtake city defence.. so they don’t give space for all this tactical arsenal were showing against weak teams, when you pressurize team like arsenal, they are bound to make mistakes, which is what utd did also in pre season
@tobby_fabulous
@tobby_fabulous 10 ай бұрын
I agree, and when we try to be aggressive too, City stops the usual build up from the back Once the front 3 plus Odegard has committed to the high press, They play into the midfield for an aerial win A city player nods it down, laying it up for another player running behind and boom it suddenly looks like a Counter Attack This was used to beat Arsenal and even the super aggressive Man Utd in FA final 😂

@tobby_fabulous 10 ай бұрын
Haaland to KDB or KDB to Haaland and the midfield has so much space that Partey and Xhaka couldn't cover as Martinelli, Jesus, Saka and Odegard already committed to the high press City invites the press, looks tempting until not just 3 but more Arsenal players commit to the press and boom a long pass to the midfield as so much space has been left behind The long pass doesn't even have to be accurate due to the space left behind I'm not sure how exactly to deal with this tactically tho

Has been for quite some time. That's why the attacking midfielder position is slowly disappearing. A single strong pivot, like Rice is, could allow two more advanced midfielders and potentially a man to man higher in the pitch, putting pressure in the lines and not forcing Nketiah to drop down so often or putting Smith Rowe in more physical areas.

@@theportugueselegend but you're way more vulnerable in transition if the single pivot gets bypassed which is especially important in the prem, hence why Man City adopted a double pivot in possession so when they lost they ball they were far more compact and better at defending transitions, literally why they got rid of Cancelo and stopped the rico lewis experiment quite early

@@theportugueselegendBoth systems have pros and cons. A double pivot is more secure in possesion, invites pressure and create space further up the pitch..., but can makes it harder to progress the ball which can lead to alot of sideways passing. A single pivot creates space in the middle of the pitch by dragging opposition away from the centre. However it makes the team vulnerable to counter attack. The single pivot can also be marked out of the game easily by putting someone ontop of him to harress him out of the game if he is not good at one-on-ones. Tbh, out of the DMs we have, I feel only Jorginho can play the single pivot in a possesion team when pressured. Partey has his best games when Zinchenko or Xhaka joins him in midfield and can struggle when left alone.

@@finding_aether I completely agree, was just about to answer Ovie's reply with that!
