As someone who has a 4.0 science gpa, I can say that all I did was study the material everyday. By the time I gave any science exam, I made sure I had revised all the material at least three times. You just cannot memorize or understand by studying everything the night before. Learning, understanding, and memorizing has to be a gradual process. So you have to study at least something of that subject everyday to master the concepts before the exam. It sounds hard but it is really not. Repeat, repeat and repeat. I followed this mantra and got an A in every science class. Just for context, I took physics 1, bio 1, and o-chem 1 all in one semester and the same for the second semester. So, to ensure enough practice before exams, I studied each subject at least an hour everyday.

For ochem, image occlusion anki cards with the reaction, reaction conditions and the product helped me memorize all the reactions and prevented me from cramming the night before

I’m a neuroscience and history double major and my guy college history is a lot more work than flashcards and dates. It’s actually lot of critical thinking and primarily assessed through essays.

Took Ochem over the summer and got an A (Had a really good professor). Practice, practice, practice those reactions!! Really get down to it. You’ve gotta drill it. You can do it.

As Someone who got it I do say classes like Ochem and biochemistry are really important to understand functions rather than memorize the process. Physics it should be practice levels of problems from easy to hardest. Same with Gen Chem. Either way studying alone is best when you have a thought but when in group make sure each partner is bringing something to help rather than one teaching or doing all the work

I’m currently a college junior, yeah physics absolutely crushed my gpa lol. I was the top 1% of my high school class and now in college I have a 3.3, it’s soo much harder than most people realize you gotta be prepared.

Taking my physics classes, besides studying for and taking the MCAT, has been the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I’ve performed great in my chemistry/biochem classes and most other classes. I had to fight hard for a B in physics 1. The sad part is I’ve always been good at math but physics for some reason is harder to click for me. It’s partially because I did not take any physics in highschool but I did chemistry. Regardless, I’m applying for medical school this fall and hoping to get in!!

I had a chemistry study group last semester and on average, my group had the highest grades in the class. My professor even highly recommended joining the group I made since we were scoring high and conversing amongst ourselves to understand the material.

Although it may at first seem like a time waster, go to office hours. If you are on the borderline between two grades, the prof will believe you have been trying and give you the higher grade and often the prof will give hints about what is on tests during office hours sessions. Use the law school outline approach. Boil key material down to 30 pages before a test and then review the 30 pages until you can recite the material from memory.

I wasn't pre med originally so I didn't care about my grades and have a 3.38. Starting pre reqs Monday and hopefully I can get my GPA up enough by then to get into a decent DO school

For my undergrad, Physics, General Biology and General Chemistry were each split into two parts, and each part was 4 credits. If you didn't do good in those, your GPA would just plummet. Shockingly Organic Chemistry also had 2 parts, however, it was 3 credits per part. Studying in the library was always the best option for me, although I can study at home as well. Organic Chemistry was difficult, but thanks to a good teacher and lab tech, those weren't too hard for me. I had to study and practice like crazy to get through these courses and my others though. For anyone who has to do these courses starting in September, good luck, keep at it, you can do this!

For Orgo Chem, I was happy to have models we had to build in order to see how chemical molecules rotate and interact with others.

I think depending on anki app is usually a way to memorize the information instead of understand it , I am not saying you don’t have to memorize anything ,but many students specially (med-students)🙄 instead of understanding the concept they just try to memorize it , and maybe one the reasons why they are doing this , cuz they don’t have enough time .

I feel like I am a mix of these both. This being studying a lot and not scoring well and not putting enough work. I want to get a really high GPA as I am trying to get into Boston University’s Early Assurance program. I have not started college yet and I want to come into college more than ready to tackle these. Yes it will not be easy but at least I can manage.

I am currently in my freshman year of university (2022-2023), majoring in chemistry. However, I entered university without prior knowledge of chemistry and struggled to grasp the subject. While I have achieved good grades in English and government classes, I received a B in pre-calculus and a C in chemistry. Although I am aware that chemistry is challenging, my passion lies in directly helping and caring for sick individuals, such as through medicine or 3D bioprinting. Consequently, I am facing a dilemma and seeking guidance regarding my academic path. (I hate math, but all of my studies should have highly advanced math courses.) Question 1: Can I excel in chemistry through hard work alone, or should I consider changing my major? I am uncertain if switching majors at this point would be the right choice. Question 2: If changing my major is recommended, I am considering several future paths: Pursuing a business major with a minor in engineering. Exploring a bio major that aligns with my existing knowledge and overlaps with required subjects, while minoring in engineering (mathematics would still be continued). Graduating with a major in psychology (where math is not required beyond the second year), selecting computer science as a minor, and subsequently applying for a neuroscience master's degree. Persevering through the challenges of the chemistry department, seeking multiple internships, and securing a job upon graduation. Question 3: Important: If you think there's a better option than this, what are some majors/ degrees that I could work in the medical field with less intensive math courses? Question 4: Considering my current circumstances, which plan offers realistic benefits, is less susceptible to being replaced by AI in the future, and offers ample opportunities for professional employment? Please note that I am open to pursuing a master's or even a doctorate in any subject if it proves necessary. Additionally, as an international student with an F-1 visa, I would appreciate any insights specific to my situation.

Done with my BS degree in computer science in 2005 and some premed subjects like human anatomy and physiology, organic chemistry, analytics chemistry, General Biology, intro medical laboratory, in 2010, now too late for me to study medicine and do residency in neurosurgery :(

Hey Dr. I was told I have H. pylori in my stool and E. Coli in my urinary tract and they want me to take Levofloxacin but that antibiotic causes liver failure. I never picked it up! I’ve also been having foamy urine for a year now but no protein was found in my urine culture. I also did an Kidney ultrasound and it was normal. Now They Want Me To Get Doxycycline Monohydrate 100mg tablet, 14 tablets. I have had terrible luck with doctors and I’m hesitant. What should I do? On Sunday I had burning sensation while urinating a minor blood but that went away on its own yesterday and pain on my right leg under my calf. I’m only 33 years old African Man! What do you suggest I take? God bless you
