Hey just came by this video, I wish I watched this before my interview last year! Unfortunately, my application with RVC was not successful but for the prioritisation question, my reasoning and my list were almost identical to yours. But I just got the review and they said my answer was graded as the bottom 25%. What do you think was the issue in your opinion? One thing I can think of is that my time ran out so I didn’t get to finish!

So your prioritisation question was pretty much the same as mine? Similar sort of thing; preparing consult room, sending a card to a patient etc etc. I would assume it was to do with your time + the justification (I can’t comment as I didn’t see your interview). My ordering I said was *technically* wrong… I just justified it and logically explained each order. I said I wouldn’t clean the practice first as I would take in the foxes/kittens that were abandoned and put them into the kennels and then clean (which is wrong from a biosecurity perspective) however I justified it as in *reality*, in my opinion, it would be wrong to leave the animals out in the cold till I clean as they could die or run away and the person who brought them here wouldn’t have time to sit about. I think the prioritisation question is about your understanding, ethics, professionalism and justification on where you would rank each one. Like the card to the owner about their deceased pet, I explained how it’s vital that practices do this as it’s an emotional loss and as a practice it’s a lovely thing to do, but in reality when you compare it to the other options you have to sadly push it to the bottom of the list. I said in an ideal world I would ask maybe a colleague who might have the time to do it? Is that helpful? If you have any more questions I’ll try and condense my rambling 😂😂

@@DogtorGee Oh no I got it perfectly lol don't worry. Some of the options were different this year that there were no foxes outside. Instead, a client brought in a dying dog that wasn't hers and the dog can't be saved. I think I said something like I would still take in because I wanted myself and the hospital to function as part of the community and pay respect to this dying dog. Then I would clean the exam room because it needs to be ready for the appointments. But I guess cleaning the exam room was the first thing to do when it comes to biosecurity perspective and I also rambled that my justification was not clear:,-)

@@mirrrr6761 yeah even though my answer was acceptable I think exam room is the “correct answer” as the 1. But your point of being nice and wanting to function as part of the community should have gotten you brownie points… I guess it’s about how you word it and how concisely. 😅 also depends on how nice the interviewer is and how lenient they are with “what is and isn’t right”. how’s it going anyway are you at a different uni? Or not doing vet med etc ! What’s your game plan atm 🤔

Do you see the questions on the sheet of paper or does it just say in this station you will be asked about work experience?
@DogtorGee
@DogtorGee 7 ай бұрын
So essentially you will have 5 stations in front of you but before you start your station you get a seat + a piece of paper to read; this will include everything about the station you are about to start. You will also get an email (depending on uni) including the general topics they asses.

Do you know if the vet nursing mmis would be similar to vet?
@DogtorGee
@DogtorGee 5 ай бұрын
I can’t say for sure but I do believe they are ran pretty much the same aside from the questions being more tailored to what is expected from a vet nurse; like more focused on clients/college teamwork skills and the questions that are meant to test your skills of interpretation (I.e for vets it was the histology slides and having to explain the differences) I’d assume there would be a vet nurse alternative style question.

Does rvc have drug calculations or any maths?
@DogtorGee
@DogtorGee 7 ай бұрын
Currently in year 2 so I can’t comment on higher years but I would say so as it’s important for to calculate patient-by-patient (due to the range of species, body weight, disease state etc). Yr2 we calculate drug half life + volume disruption; when talking about drug-and-body interactions. And a range of other topics regarding drug classes.

@@DogtorGeehi, thanks so much for your response. I meant in the interview if there’s drug calculations. They did say they don’t test academics but I’ve heard some people mention calculations regarding vet interviews
@DogtorGee
@DogtorGee 7 ай бұрын
Ohhh sorry my bad! So from my experience they do not test your academic ability as such; for example I was tested on my understanding and ability to differentiate two histology slides; comparing and contrasting etc a diseased git slide and non I don’t know all Uni’s (especially external to the United Kingdom) but I have not heard of them testing your mathematical skills as it’s very much testing you, your logical thinking, compassion/your values, and communication etc.

@@DogtorGeeI’m feeling a bit more confident. I only have interview from rvc and it’s my first choice. Could you please tell me if when they ask questions for example about work experience are u expected to just speak until the time runs out while they listen or do they make it in more of a conversation and ask more questions to expand
@DogtorGee
@DogtorGee 7 ай бұрын
@@humayrakadir5853 Good! I think genuinely being confident will help you; as you will open up more and utilise the time you have (first attempt I flopped due to anxiety haha) And it’s sort of a mix of both. For example with the work experience station, they will ask you a question like “what experience made you confident when working within a team” and then you take the lead and will explain your point etc. They will either build upon that or go “okay okay, so…” and lead into another point. Generally, the questions they ask are there to see if; - you learnt anything from a placement - What makes you a good candidate to be at the uni; I.e what unique experiences have you had within work experience / what situations prove you are cable for this field. - NOT what they look for as such; but its a great time to show off any fun and unique work experience (aka zoos, alpaca farms, exotics etc)
