Balancing theory and practice is a difficult task. In fact, it's probably the most difficult thing in the self help industry. You pick up a personal development book, you read it, but you never apply it. Or you just act, act and act without ever learning about theoretical concepts. It is easy to lean heavily on the theory side or on the practice side and neglecting the other part completely, but only if you implement and apply what you learned, will you really be able to reap the benefits and become successful. In this video, we discuss a simple yet effective approach to combining theory and practice.

I feel this video, I want to get better at art. I keep telling myself I will. I keep watching videos, I keep gathering references, but I hardly draw. I’m too busy learning, but not practicing or doing. This video kind of untangles the web of overthinking my process of tackling this goal and simplifies it greatly.

This is something I struggle myself. When I first discovered self-improvement I started reading every book I could find and not implementing anything. Later I got discouraged that I was reading so much and doing so little so I stopped reading for a whole year. Now I am starting to read again but the balance between reading and doing is very hard to establish. Great points!

Found you over on OnePercentBetter. *I 100% agree with this video, and I think you and I are pretty similar.* I am more on the theory side because hello, that is why I started a KZfaq channel, and the information I share with everyone is what I have learned from those books. However, even though I enjoy the theory the most, I find that I feel lazy, and I feel like I am wasting my knowledge if I do not put that information into practice.

I spend my day dreaming and planning. but when it gets to the working and applying what I learn I just think oh I need to read and learn more. then I keep drowning in the process. I have deep feelings I know a lot and I can achieve a lot.. not sure how to move on from that spot to DO spot. thank you for the great content. 1st time here.

Thank you so much for this helpful video. You knocked out all the confusions I had with with applying the knowledge I get from reading. From today I start my journey of applying the knowledge I gained since the past 9 to 10 months of reading. Thank you for this simple idea , I subscribed to your channel.

A formula I remind myself of to avoid being either to theory orientated or to practice orientated is Intention + Knowledge + Action = Result. I find that reminding myself of this formula reminds me not just to learn but to put the knowledge into practice. This is the real law of attraction.

In my opinion your mental struggle can be easilly solved. What about actually think a reason, why are you reading this ? If you have reason for reading the aplication then result from it. Honestly if you reading for example book about jellyfish and you are not a biologist specialized on ocean life it will be almost imposible to use the information (if you are not a chef whose looking for ways how to make jellyfish salad.). Last but not least may i ask you where are you from? Your accent is very interesting. :)

In High School and College. The basic rules of scheduling are used by students until they get out of school. Then life becomes hectic because it is harder to stick to your schedule than a prescribed schedule. In school someone tells you what to do. As an adult you make your schedule and YOU have the choice to do your schedule or " I don't feel like" tries to take over your life. Apply to the need to do first. and want to do after needs are taken care of.

Oh finally! I'm 15 and I've been reading some books lately but I haven't been applying it. I have this thought that if I read and I don't apply, I'll be the same as a person who started reading in his 20's. So, thank you for this video. Got any book recommendations for teens?

I started reading at a similar age and I found tim ferris quite good. also ryan holidays books are an excellent foundation (the obstacle is the way, ego is the enemy) are quite good to start that journey or something like "turning pro" or "the artists journey". I also have a list of books linked in the video description somewhere.
