This is exactly what I need for my drag costume! Thank you for the well explained and honestly, quite simple tutorial. I'm sure it'll be difficult for me as I have never tried it, but this video fills me with confidence that I'll be able to do it!

wish I had found this video a month ago when I JUST did this for my daughters costume!! would have made my life SO much easier, and the thread magic would have been useful as well! lol

Isn't that how it always goes! This is just a hack that I figured out on my own after getting way too many thread tangles trying to sew boas from the right side of the costume. It is a game changer! Now you're ready to take on the next boa! Thanks for watching!

Thank you so much for the video, I have a question please, how can I attach two different colors of boa to the leotard?
@RhinestoneQueenCostumes
@RhinestoneQueenCostumes Ай бұрын
Good question. Yes! You can do multiple colors. If you look at the cover photo on my "How to Sew Spaghetti Straps" video, there's a hot pink and orange costume where I used two different color boas. I simply twisted them together, then proceeded the same as I would with a single boa.

I live nearby in Denham, do you offer sewing / costume making lessons? I want to learn so bad!
@RhinestoneQueenCostumes

I have not done lessons, but would consider it. I specialize in custom dance costumes. I can sew other things, but stretch fabrics are my comfort zone, so that's where my skill lies. Joann's may offer basic sewing classes. I do have a series on "how to make a leotard" that would help you get started in the world of stretch.

this is very beautiful. Can a similar process be used with non feather, tulle boas or boas made from organza?
@RhinestoneQueenCostumes
@RhinestoneQueenCostumes Жыл бұрын
I've only ever worked with feather boas, so I can't guarantee the same outcome with tulle or organza boas, but I think it's absolutely worth a try! If it doesn't work, it's easy to rip out and start over. Just don't cut your boa until you know for sure that the method works for you. Thanks for watching!

Thankyou so much When sewing all the round would I start the stand way then go in and fill at the front?
@RhinestoneQueenCostumes
@RhinestoneQueenCostumes 3 ай бұрын
I don't. I double my thread and sew in each spot, knotting 2-3 times at each spot. I cut my thread then move on to the next spot. It makes for a nicer finish in the back with no threads to tangle.

Or would it be possible to keep doing more layers? If I have two less full boas? Or would this not look as good as a 4 ply?
@RhinestoneQueenCostumes
@RhinestoneQueenCostumes Жыл бұрын
I use the 2-ply boas and usually make 3 rows of like I showed in the video. It covers well. All of the costumes with boas that are pictured on my Facebook page (Rhinestone Queen Costumes) were done with 2-ply boas using the same technique that I demonstrated in the video. I have never used a 4-ply boa, so I really can't speak to whether it covers better. I would guess that instead of the 3 rows of boa that I usually use with 2-ply, I could get away with 2 rows with a 4-ply. I wouldn't recommend using anything less than the 2-ply boa. Hope that helps.

Thank you! How do you stop the cut boa ends from unravelling?
@RhinestoneQueenCostumes
@RhinestoneQueenCostumes Жыл бұрын
I've never had the boa unravel on me. When I make my cut, I pull the feathers away from the twine underneath and cut the twine. If you're concerned about unraveling, just put a dab of glue (hot glue or E6000 should work) on the raw end of the twine. Just be careful not to get glue on your feathers.

Hey, watching this and loving all your videos so far. Have you tried the E7000 glue? Just found it while I was looking for some stones for my GGdaughter's little super hero costume. Have you tried it or is not right for rhinestone application? Thanks, you are awesome!! @@RhinestoneQueenCostumes

Have you ordered the 4 ply and the 2 play from Hai Trims? I saw that was where you order in a reply above. If so, did you see a huge difference? I want them really really full! Thank you!!
@RhinestoneQueenCostumes
@RhinestoneQueenCostumes Жыл бұрын
I usally get the 2-ply. If you hang them for a day or so and encourage the "floof" with your hands, I find it works fine ... especially when I use 3 rows of it on a young dancer's bottom. Look through my pics on my Facebook page "Rhinestone Queen Costumes". All of my boa's are 2-ply. The costumes with more "flat" laying feathers are ostrich feather fringe. The poofy ones are boas. I've never used 4-ply because of cost, but I'm sure they are nicer than the 2-ply ones.

Can you sew it on the foam board?
@RhinestoneQueenCostumes
@RhinestoneQueenCostumes 2 жыл бұрын
Please forgive my delayed reply! I'm just seeing your comment. I sew on the foam board all of the time, but I find for the boa, it's easiest to sew from the underside. You certainly can stitch from the right side while it's on the foam board, but then you have to fight your thread getting tangled on the feathers. If you put it back on the foam board wrong side out after your boa is pinned in, you risk the boa moving. When I first started costuming, I sewed boas from the right side and had a war with the feathers and thread. It nearly drove me to drink! Sewing from the underside is sooooo much easier! NO tangling of feathers and thread!
