Many teachers don't realize that it's possible to create a Google form that includes audio. In this video I'm going to show you one of the simplest and quickest ways to create audio content and then share it in your Google form. Your students can then listen to the audio and answer your questions. This is ideal for any teacher, for example teaching English or another language where they want to create listening comprehension material. It is also great for any teacher that wants to create audio content of the students then needs to respond to.
In the first part of this video I will show you one of the simplest and cheapest ways to create an audio file. The system creates an MP3 file and this is ideal when working in Google forms. You can add the recorded MP3 file into your Google Drive and then connect it to your Google forms. After you simply asked the questions connected to the audio and you've got yourself a quiz or test you can do with your students.
There are some really good reasons for doing it this way. Firstly the audio files are free. Secondly the audio file produced is generally very smooth and easy to share in your Google Drive. You can then link your Google drive to your Google forms and it's very simple. You simply add the link to the audio file at the top of the screen.
This is ideal if you're wanting to produce any type of test or quiz with your students. You could even get those students to make their own listening comprehension material. Don't forget the audio file that we produce are completely free and you might want to use this with other Google tools like for example working with Google Slides or even Google Docs.
The video takes you through every stage step-by-step so you will clearly see exactly what you need to do, first to create the recording and then secondly to add the recording to the quiz. Google forms is a great way of testing students because we can immediately see the responses from the students after they have completed the exercise. The date we get back can be very useful and can guide us on what we need to teach.

Hi Russell, thanks for pointing out the existence of the online voice recorder, which can be a useful tool for students too (I've just posted the link on classroom for all of mine). Is there any way of controlling how many times they listen to a recording within a quiz? I guess there isn't and we just have to rely on their honesty if we're for example doing a listening comprehension test similar to those in PET or First. But since you always surprise us with brilliant solutions, I thought I'd ask because maybe you know of one :)
@ttvRussell
@ttvRussell 3 жыл бұрын
You can't control that. I think really when using this for listening practice, it doesn't matter but if you want to emulate an exam scenario then it would be useful to be able to control it.

@@ttvRussell yep, my thoughts exactly. Maybe there's a way somewhere - the Italian INVALSI test simulations on the Zanichelli ebsite - I can give you a link if you want - do just that, you enter a page and the recording immediately starts, including both the time to read and the two repetitions. There's no way of stopping it or go back. I don't like these tests but I'd really like to know what technology they use.

Hi Russell, as always thanks for your excellent videos. I need to create digital listening tests. Is there any free app or web based too that allows to upload mp3 and so that they play only once or twice or in teacher management mode? It looks like tools like Socrative, Quizzes, Panquiz, Booklet and so on don’t have this function. I know I can put a link to my drive but then SS can replay the audio a number of times, or stop when they need to, and this is not good for testing, furthermore the file opens in another window and that is distracting. Any ideas? SS need to do the tests in the school lab or on their personal devices. I know the question has been answered before, I’m just hoping that in the meantime someone might have found a way.

Irene, I don't know the answer. I guess that is the sort of feature you have to pay for. I don't know Panquiz...I will take a look.

Hi, Russell. I am a great fan of your channel! I am from Norway, and a retired Spanish teacher after 40 years. My question is: Can I use any audio program for this. I have audacity and use that program a lot. If I understood correctly the point is to import the file to your google account.
@ttvRussell
@ttvRussell 3 жыл бұрын
Lovely to hear from you Elisabeth, you can use any programme as long as you can save as MP3 file and then drop into Google Drive. So with audacity you can do it for sure.

It's easy to forget the points value; remember to check every time, both when you create the question afterwards once you've finished the quiz.

Hi Russel Is there any adaptation of this process for creating an immediate interactive quiz in a classroom or boardroom situation and immediately after a full quiz giving feedback to include which participant[s] have given the most correct answers. Or is there a better way to do something like this?

H!, In which platform (for testing listening) I can limit the number of times for students to play audio files when they take a listening comprehension test? I need to let them only listen two times, any platform works, no problem.
@ttvRussell
@ttvRussell 2 жыл бұрын
That might be a bit more complicated. You would probably need to take a different approach. I am not sure in that case that Google Quizzes would be the answer. You probably need a platform where you can control such things like Moodle, Blackboard or Brightspace. Sorry I can't help more

If you added the audio files into Google Drive, you must make sure that the Google Audio files are public. You need to simply make sure that all the files you share are public so that your students can access them.
