HA! Good timing. It may have been a nice idea to add in the "issue" if you attach any mesh with collision to the mesh like a sword or torch. 😉 In case some reads this with that issue, just set the attached mesh to a no collision setting.

The problem with this approach is that the ragdoll will move across the map, but the capsule component will stay in the same position as an invisible wall. I found this very annoying when I added ragdolls to dead enemies and solved it by teleporting the capsule component somewhere else, but there must be a better way

I had the same problem, and I solved it by using the 'DestroyComponent' blueprint node. I selected all the components except for the mesh and removed them, which resolved the issue.

What can I do if when my character is supposed to be a ragdoll a clone is created which is a ragdoll and the player can be played normally?

Hello , I try with my player when he die and my ragdoll stay in air and move like she are on the top of my capsule but I disable the capsule collision before set physics for the mesh. I try different things but nothing work. Same result. Any idea please ? thanks !

Good video but the ragdoll of a person is unrealistic because joints have a direction they can bend and this doesnt account for that. This would let a person's knee bend backwards which is impossible. Have you ever set up some type of IK constraints for this ?

prbly easier to reset the whole level, or to respawn the character.

You just need to make a system that identifies when the player has completed a certain task, like killing a gang. And then you play an animation montage or something.

How come it only works with ragdoll setting? I have some custom settings but doesnt seem to work with it.

You could always make a new collision profile in project settings for a custom ragdoll. You could also just change your defaults under the ragdoll profile (also in project settings) if all of your ragdolls will use the same custom settings.

In UE 5.2 the character falls through the floor and becomes invisible.

Don't know if you figured it out already but it sounds like your mesh collision type isn't set to ragdoll like it should be.

@@keyotine Where do you set the collision from ? The default settings in 5.2 are probably different somehow.

​@@FirstLast-pu9ty at 1:55 it shows it. Make sure you select your mesh under the character BP. The Capsule Component should NOT be set to simulate physics either or else it will just fall through the ground. If all of this fails, make sure your skeletal mesh actually has proper physics by clicking the simulate button once you open your physics asset. An easy trouble shooting method would be to click on your capsule component in the main character BP and uncheck it from being hidden in game. That way you can see if the actual capsule component falls through the floor as well or just your skeletal mesh. I've been in unreal for 5 years now and that's the way we have always done it. I haven't used 5.2 yet so it could very well be different now though.

@@keyotine I probably missed that part. Thank you for your help. I will have to try it later but I uninstalled 5.2 because it's not running as good as UE4. Still has some bugs and issues.

@@FirstLast-pu9ty no problem. I use UE5 for hobby projects right now since they made so many changes and have so many new bugs so I can understand that. If you need anymore help, I can upload a short video going into collision profiles or something.
