Oh my goodness. After all the videos I’ve seen with forward shoulders, I never have seen one for the shoulder bone being forward, (which is what I have). Thank you so much for helping me with this!

I think I prefer the pattern work shown using the sloping table vs on the wall. But either is good since you do the explaining. You know what you are doing and do an excellent job attempting to share that knowledge with others.

@JoJo Sewist - this was one of our earlier videos when we didn't have the upside down camera...so the image is slightly sloped. Sometimes the demos lend themselves to the wall work and other times I find it easier to use the over head camera and flat table...all depends what I'm teaching.

Thanks a lot for this video. As a matter of fact I do need to make 2 more changes in my pattern due to sort of a "hollow" chest that comes along with this stupid shoulder bone wich sticks out 🙄 I need to scoop the front armhole out a little bit, right after the new shoulder point, and also need to make curve which goes under the arm prominenter. Corresponding changes have to be made at the sleeve.

Hi Glenda, you saved me after weeks of wondering how to fix the forward shoulder problem! One question: do I need to change (deepen the armhole?). Thanks!
@surefitdesigns

Lavinia Monforte - No, the underarm depth remains the same. You only need to move the sleeve cap notch forward the same amount that you moved the shoulder point forward.

@@surefitdesigns I have been trying to solve this problem for two years now, and it kept me from sewing fitted bodices, that I love so much. Believe me when I say I've sewed dozens of muslins. Finally! I have found out what is wrong with me. I always thought I was round shouldered and was getting choked and disappointed with things I made. Thankyou so much. Such a simple solution Question: if I am doing a batwing sleeve do I carry the decrease at front and increase at rear for the full length of the sleeve? Thanks so much

Your explanation is quite clear. I have a rounded back (a so called buffalo hump😕) sloping shoulders (I saw your video in that) ánd forward shoulders I think. I need to add quite a bit of fabric on my back bodice, about 1.5”. Can that be done with this technique too? And do I need to combine the forward shoulder adjustment with the sloping shoulder part if that is at all possible?

I’m eagerly awaiting the arrival of my first SFD dress kit. I’ll probably need to do this alteration; my shoulder seams on my RTW shirts ride toward my back, not on my shoulder line. How does one determine the amount to change the seam line? I’m thinking, put on the completed test bodice, put a piece of tape on the actual top of the shoulder line, and measure the distance from that to the sewn shoulder seam line.🤔🤷🏻‍♀️
@glendasparling8896
@glendasparling8896 4 жыл бұрын
Hi April, yes after sewing the test bodice straight off the master pattern, you'll be able to see how much you need to move the shoulder seam forward. But also realize that having a (slightly) rounded back can also cause garments to pull toward the back. Sometimes you might also need a rounded back tune-up. Also, just for future reference, with questions like this, please email me directly at info@surefitdesigns.com as I always check my emails but not always do for the KZfaq comments. thanks...Glenda Sparling

In moving the seam notch forward, would the underarm body seam then not set in line with the sleeve seam ? I know it doesn't matter, you aren't walking around with your arms over your head, just wondering. Thanks!

@KA Brewer - This process doesn't affect the position of the underarm seam.

Hello, would this work in reverse if the shoulder seams is coming forward? Normally I don’t have issues with shoulder seams but this pattern I am musling, the shoulder seams are coming forward to the front. The pattern doesn’t say anything about the seams coming forward to the front. Thank you in advance.

I only have one forward shoulder so is it better to create a right and a left sleeve ? Currently I cut all my bodices out on single layer
@surefitdesigns

Yes, you definitely need to create an asymmetrical pattern with a different right and left side. And yes, you need to cut fabric in a single layer.

@@surefitdesigns Hi Glenda I did the forward adjustment on bodices and made a toile but I found that when I moved the sleeve notch it caused the sleeve to hang incorrectly so I put it back to the original and it fitted perfectly, just wanted to tell you just in case anyone else had the same issue 🤗

I am confused at which one i should do. When i wear the dress the whole shoulder seam goes atleast 5/8” back. Do i need do the first adjustment you should or the 2nd one which is forward shoulder adjustment.
@surefitdesigns
@surefitdesigns 2 жыл бұрын
@pinsandneedles x - if the entire shoulder seam is being pulled backward, then you need to move the entire shoulder seam forward, not just the shoulder point.

@@pinsandneedlesx8825 there is no way to tell on a commercial pattern. With Sure-Fit Designs your personal fit is worked out ahead of designing any garment. So when you design a new project, that alteration is already built in and the problem no longer exists. You can also use your Sure-Fit Designs sloper for helping you to recognize fit issues with commercial patterns.

Hi, the effort is apreciable but the way you see the problem is wrong: a forward shoulder is a sick shoulder that need a correction. The shoulder need to be fixed, not the shirt.
